RECYCLING

If you have any piece of electrical equipment you want to recycle, you can either:

• Bring your old product into any of our Currys/PC World/Currys.digital stores or Megastores

or

• We can collect and recycle your old TV (when you buy a TV of 40” or above) or large domestic appliance for free when you have your new product delivered. 
  

PLEASE NOTE:  If you are recycling a product that holds personal data (i.e. PC, Laptop, Mobile Phone, etc) you will need to have removed the information from your old product prior to us receiving it as we will not carry out any data removal.

Where items are delivered direct from the manufacturer and not by KNOWHOW, different terms and conditions apply.

WHAT WE'D ASK YOU TO DO...

If you’ve purchased one of our KNOWHOW™ installation services, we’ll disconnect your old large screen TV/large domestic appliance for you as part of the service.

Before we arrive, we would ask that you ensure that the old appliance is in a fit state to be taken away by the KNOWHOW™ team. For a refrigeration appliance, for example, that means that it should be:

• free of water
• fully defrosted

If you haven’t opted for an installation service, no problem, we just ask that you make sure you’ve safely disconnected your old appliance before we arrive (built-in/integrated appliances should be disconnected and completely removed from their housing).

 

Please use a qualified individual where required – please note gas and dual fuel cookers should be disconnected and emptied, if applicable, by Gas Safe Register approved engineers.

We certainly do not want to damage your floor covering during collection so in some circumstances we are not able to disconnect old products. This would be the case for the following:

• appliances that are hard wired into a fused spur
• appliances that have seized up tap connections
• appliances that are unable to be moved

LOOK FOR THE LOGO

All new electrical and electronic equipment we sell at Currys can be recycled! You can tell because our products include a ‘crossed out wheeled bin symbol’ like this.

Even if your old product doesn’t have the ‘crossed out wheeled bin’ symbol, the good news is we’ll gladly accept and recycle your old electrical and electronic equipment to the best of our ability.

BENEFITS OF RECYCLING

Recycling unwanted electrical products is better for the environment.  Lead and other toxins contained in electrical goods can cause soil and water contamination. This can have a very harmful effect on the natural habitat, wildlife and also human health. When situated near populated areas these toxins can cause problems to communities as their water and soil is polluted.

Many of the electrical items that we throw away can be repaired or recycled. Recycling items helps to save natural resources and also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with sending waste electrical goods to landfill.

A BIT ABOUT BATTERIES

DSG Retail Limited, is responsible for the collection, treatment and recycling of waste batteries. You’ll find recycling bins for batteries in all Currys, Currys.digital and PCWorld stores and all of our Megastores, so that anyone and everyone can deposit their used portable batteries. Batteries we accept:

• AA or AAA batteries
• Batteries used in mobile phones or laptops
• Batteries fixed to the motherboard of a personal computer or laptop
• Batteries found in wristwatches

Sorry, we don’t accept:

• Industrial batteries
• Automotive batteries

If you require information on how to recycle these types of batteries you should contact your supplier or your local council.
