We can recycle for free

Recycling electrical and electronic products

Since July 2007 the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations have applied.  The regulations were introduced to reduce the amount of untreated waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) going to landfill and to ensure that equipment collected separately is dealt with properly.

What do I need to do to ensure my old TV/large domestic appliance is ready for you to take away?

•   If you have purchased an installation service we will disconnect your old TV/large domestic appliance. If you have purchased a laundry product we will not be able to disconnect the old one if it is hard wired into a fused spur, tap connections are seized up or it is unable to be moved or in moving, damage could occur to the floor covering. If you have a refrigeration product it must be fully defrosted and free of water.

•   If you have not purchased one of our installation services you will have to ensure your old TV/large domestic appliance is safely disconnected by a qualified individual where appropriate, i.e. only Gas Safe Register approved engineers should disconnect gas and dual fuel cookers and empty if applicable. If you have a refrigeration product it must be fully defrosted and free of water.

How will I know whether the new products I buy can be recycled?

All new electrical and electronic equipment we sell can be recycled and will carry the ‘crossed out wheeled bin’ symbol.

Even if your old product does not carry the ‘crossed out wheeled bin’ we will happily receive your old electrical and electronic equipment and recycle it to the best of our ability.  You do not need to have purchased new electrical and electronic equipment to be able to recycle your old item.

Why should waste electrical goods be recycled?

Recycling unwanted electrical products is better for the environment.  Lead and other toxins contained in electrical goods can cause soil and water contamination. This can have a very harmful effect on the natural habitat, wildlife and also human health. When situated near populated areas these toxins can cause problems to communities as their water and soil is polluted.

Many of the electrical items that we throw away can be repaired or recycled. Recycling items helps to save natural resources and also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with sending waste electrical goods to landfill.
