Assassin's Creed really puts your parkour skills to the test! Developed by Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed games have you free-roaming ancient cities as a silent killer who uses their surroundings to avoid getting caught. Hide in bushes, blend in with crowds, scale monuments, and use nearby distractions to complete your missions without raising suspicion.

But Assassin’s Creed games aren’t all about being sneaky. There’s their exquisite graphics, superb storytelling, and vast environments to explore too — with each instalment taking place in a different historical era. The series’ very first game from 2007 is set during the Third Crusade, while other AC games through the years have taken place in Ancient Greece, Renaissance Italy, and Industrial London. In the new Assassin’s Creed game (Assassin’s Creed Mirage), you play as a cunning street thief in 9th century Baghdad.

All AC games feature plots filled with deadly conspiracies and shady groups that you must join and fight against. Aside from perfecting your parkour chops, you have to test your mettle in heart-pumping weapon-based combat and take on various side quests to complete each game. These include treasure hunts, puzzles, and races that reward you with in-game currency, experience points, weapons, and armour.

Speaking of weapons and armour, Ubisoft are amazing at recreating authentic historic gear that matches the time period of each Assassin’s Creed game. So, if you’re a real history buff, you’ll really love all these tiny details. And the soundtracks are top-notch too, along with the epic cinematic sound design that makes for even more immersive gameplay.

New Assassin's Creed games

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the latest AC game, is set during the Islamic Golden Age and follows Basim Ibn Ishaq. He joins the Hidden Ones to fight for peace and liberty against the Order of the Ancients, who want to rule with an iron fist. Throughout the game you’ll complete secret missions for the Hidden Ones while unravelling Basim’s mysterious past.

And you won’t have to wait long for the next game in the franchise. Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set in 16th century Japan, will be released in November 2024.
