Gas cooker buying guide
Gas cookers provide fast and responsive heat that cooks quickly. Cooking with gas provides a manageable, instantly adjustable heat and helps to give roasts a crisp skin on the outside whilst keeping the meat succulent.
Cheaper to run than electric cookers, when it comes to gas there are two options: natural gas and LPG. Natural gas cookers are more common than LPG but both need to be installed by a professional, Gas Safe Registered fitter to ensure that they work efficiently and safely. Many natural gas cookers can be converted to LPG with a kit, however this needs to be carried out at the time of installation by a registered fitter.

Freestanding gas cookers are generally available in 50 cm, 55 cm and 60 cm options, although no matter what size you select, remember that all freestanding cookers require space around them for ventilation.
These measurements can vary from brand to brand, so please check the product information carefully for each cooker to make sure you have enough space.View our range of 50 cm wide gas cookers

The size of your kitchen and the kind of cooking you want to do will dictate the kind of oven that is best for you.
In our range of freestanding gas cookers we have three different options to choose from:
Ideal for anyone who wants an uncomplicated way to cook. All grilling and cooking occurs in the same cavity without sacrificing oven space to a separate grill but you cannot use both at the same time. Usually the capacity of a single oven will be larger than double cavities.
One oven with a separate grill which means you can cook with both cavities at the same time. Typically the oven will be slightly smaller than a single cavity but you can use the oven to roast vegetables and grill fish simultaneously for greater versatility.
Two ovens with the top doubling up as a grill to help you tackle even the hardest recipes. Use both ovens to cook at different temperatures simultaneously or put the finishing touches on a meal with the top oven grilling away while the main oven is roasting.
We also have cookers in the range with high level grills that let you check your food without stooping or bending over for an easier way to grill.View our range of single oven gas cookers

Ovens work in different ways and some are more suited to certain styles of cooking than others. Our range of gas cookers features two kinds:Conventional ovens
Conventional ovens are the most straightforward to use and are great for uncomplicated recipes. Cook with different heat zones within the oven depending on where the food is positioned- conventional ovens are hotter at the top and cooler at the bottom.
Ideal for: Roast Beef, Traditional baking, soufflés
A rotating fan gently circulates the heat to almost eliminate uneven heating zones, although not as thoroughly as a fully fanned electric oven. The oven temperature is more even than conventional ovens but the top is still slightly hotter than the bottom. Fanned gas ovens often have the ability to cook with or without the fan, turning the cavity into a conventional oven when the fan is switched off, for greater cooking options.
Ideal for: Crisp and brown top and bottom, toad-in-the-hole, quiche, roast pork

Keeping your oven clean and hygienic after use is important but can be time consuming.
Manufacturers include various labour-saving ways to reduce the time you have to spend cleaning the inside of your cooker.
Both of the cleaning systems of our rangers cookers are listed below, all you have to do is decide how much hard work you want to put into oven cleaning. But be warned, as the technology increases, so does the price.Easy-clean enamel oven liners
Easy-clean enamel lined ovens have a smooth coating and require much less effort to wipe down than regular enamel linings, however they still need manual cleaning. Easy-clean enamel is the cheapest on the list because although it makes it harder for food waste to stick to the oven wall, you do have to do most of the work yourself.
Specially treated with a coating that absorbs any grease and food residue. Once absorbed the food waste is oxidised when the oven reaches 200°C, making it much easier to wipe down. If you don't cook at temperatures over 200°C, most manufacturers recommend systematically turning your oven up for an hour every few months to keep the catalytic liners in tip-top shape.
