Built-in hobs

Built-in hobs, also called integrated hobs, give you cooking zones or burners that are fitted into your kitchen worktop. Our range includes both electric and gas models.

The main advantage of built-in hobs is the ability to place the hob exactly where you want. Mounted independently in an island, next to the oven or above it, integrated hobs give you more freedom when it comes to planning your kitchen layout.

Choose between a standard hob with four cooking areas or, if you have the space you could consider a wider hob with more space and additional features.

Look out for some hobs which feature wok burners, state of the art electric induction technology and advanced safety features for more flexibility in the kitchen.

Step 1: Choose the type

Hobs work in different ways and some are more suited to certain styles of cooking than others. There are four types of hobs and we’ve broken down their functions and explained what they do to help you find the right one for you.

electric ceramic hob

Electric ceramic

Ceramic hobs are the next step up the ladder and are easy to clean with a smooth glass surface which blends perfectly into contemporary kitchens. Much more efficient than gas, ceramic hobs heat the glass top which transfers the heat to the pans. They are slower to heat but for added safety often feature hot hob indicators to let you know when they're cool enough to touch.

electric induction hob

Electric induction

Instead of heating the hob, Induction technology uses magnetic fields to agitate the metal in the pan, turning your cookware into the heat source. The positives are: induction hobs are just as responsive as gas but are far more efficient, only using the energy they need to heat the pans. They are safe to touch even during cooking and you can leave utensils on them without fear of melting. Spills onto induction hobs can be wiped away in seconds for the easiest cleaning option on the market. To use induction hobs you do need pans with high iron content and they're not recommended for anyone with pacemakers but, all in all, they're a supremely cool way to cook.

Gas hobs are a fast and responsive way to cook. Many feature in-built safety features to put your mind at ease including auto ignition and flame safety devices to make using them safer and more hassle free.

Built-In hobs come in various different widths which mean they can be installed in different positions within your kitchen.

60cm: This is the standard width for built-in hobs and will fit into most kitchens.

70 cm: Slightly larger than standard but will still fit into a 60 cm width cavity. These hobs have more space to cook with and are particularly good if you use bigger cookware.

More about induction hobs

Electric induction technology is one of the most advanced cooking methods you'll find in the kitchen with plenty of practical benefits compared to other hob types. We've explained some of the main benefits of electric induction cooking, as well as a short video to show exactly how it works.

Electric induction hobs are considerably faster than other hobs. They use electromagnets and the iron content in your cookware to heat your food, making your pans the heat source. The transfer of energy is much more direct meaning that you save time in the kitchen.

Unlike gas or electric ceramic hobs, which create a lot of unfocussed heat, electric induction hobs only heat the pan that is on the hob. This means almost 100% of the energy is transferred exactly where you need it. By only heating the cookware, very little energy is wasted, making electric induction hobs cheaper to run and much more energy efficient than other alternatives.

Because only the cookware is heated when you cook on electric induction hobs, they are much safer to use, with surfaces that you can touch, even during cooking.

Compared to electric ceramic hobs, whose glass hob surface can reach temperatures in excess of 100°C almost immediately, the glass around electric induction hobs will only heat up to around 40°C, and only after extended use. This means that if you or your family do accidently touch the surrounding area when cooking, your chances of injury are greatly reduced. And because they're electric there will never be an exposed flame.

Electric induction hobs are always smooth, which makes them really easy to wipe clean after use. Another advantage is that because electric induction hobs only work when you place metal cookware on them, any food that spills over onto the hob won't burn on as it would with electric ceramic hobs.

Electric induction hobs provide the immediacy of a gas flame without sacrificing efficiency and allow for accurate adjustments so you can cook in a more responsive way. They don't need any heat-up or cool-down time and you can change the temperature in an instant.
