Our FAQs are here to help.

How do 8K TVs compare to traditional TVs?

8K TV is the highest resolution TV that has been released recently among UHD (Ultra High Definition) TVs. An 8K TV has a screen with 7,680 horizontal and 4,320 vertical pixels, for a total of approximately 33 million pixels. So, how good are 8K TVs compared to traditional TVs? With four times more pixels than a 4K TV—and 16 times more than Full HD TVs—8K TVs boast sharper pictures, impressive detail and an overwhelming sense of immersion when watching TV. This is because pixels are more densely packed within the same area, which allows for a much more sophisticated and realistic image representation. In 8K TVs, pixels are so small they cannot be distinguished even from close up, meaning you can bring larger screens into your home, without having to re-model.

What 8K content is out there?

The 8K eco-system has been developing in the past few years with recent technology advances (5G networks, Full Fibre to homes, AV1 codec, HDMI 2.1, 8K camera & smartphones) opening up new ways to capture and deliver 8K content. You can already enjoy stunning 8K HDR documentaries from around the (natural) world on The Explorers app of your QLED 8K Smart TV. And with the new Galaxy S20 Series smartphones, you can now shoot your own 8K HDR videos and watch them on your QLED 8K TV.

A number of streaming platforms such as Vimeo and YouTube already support 8K content – RED Digital Cinema, Phil Holland, Jacob + Katie Schwarz channels. With our 2020 QLED 8K TVs featuring AV1 codec support, you can stream these channels without having to plug in an external box. And for all the avid gamers out there, the HDMI 2.1 port/cable standard – available with QLED 8K and next-gen game consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X – opens up a new era of (8K) gaming. Sports fans will get to watch the next Tokyo Olympics in 8K.

As native 8K content becomes increasingly available, QLED 8K TVs use deep learning to upscale all of your content – from HD to 4K, from terrestrial to streaming – into an impressive 8K. So with 8K Upscaling, even 4K looks better on 8K – today. Buying 8K now means future-proofing the lifetime of your TV.

How does QLED 8K improve my entertainment experience?

From picture, sound to design innovations, award-winning QLED 8K is our best TV technology yet. This means you’ll get the best, most immersive viewing experience from the No.1 TV Brand*. And that’s because our most powerful processor is busy behind the scenes taking ordinary picture and sound and making them extraordinary. That includes AI Upscaling, which means you’ll enjoy everything you watch in 8K – even if it’s not filmed in 8K – making QLED 8K our best for movies, binge-watching, streaming, sports and gaming. Paired with leading HDR brightness, you’ll discover details you didn’t know existed and relive moments in new-found clarity and depth. As the anti-glare screen on your QLED 8K absorbs reflections, you’ll never miss any of the drama – even with sunlight streaming through your window on a bright day – whilst the nearly bezel-less Infinity display (with Q950TS/Q900T) means you’ll watch big blockbusters on a fully immersive, cinematic screen. And you’ll also get an incredible sound experience to match thanks to Object Tracking Sound+, delivering immersive 3D audio that travels around the screen.

What is HDR brightness and why does it matter?

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range and refers to a technology that opens up details in content in both very bright and very dark scenes. It makes a big difference to your content – movies and shows look more realistic, with natural, true-to-life colours. In order to get the best HDR experience, you need to consider how well bright and dark content can be expressed. This is why a TV’s brightness – measured in nits – is a key factor that enhances the picture quality of your HDR TV. The higher a TV’s nit levels (peak brightness), the better it is at unearthing those previously-hidden delicate details – and deliver incredibly crisp and rich images. Not only do Samsung QLED TVs deliver up to 4000 nits*, they also analyse and optimise your content scene-by-scene with HDR10+. So whatever’s on the screen, you’ll see it all in incredible depth and super fine detail, with more vibrant colours and stunning clarity.

What is Object Tracking Sound+?

Object Tracking Sound+ takes entertainment to a whole new level by delivering object-based audio that moves in-sync with action on-screen. OTS+ takes advantage of the 8 speakers built into all 4 sides of your QLED 8K TV to deliver immersive, three-dimensional sound that places you right in the heart of the action of everything you watch – movies, sports and gaming alike. And with Samsung Q-Symphony, your QLED TV & Q-Series soundbar work together to elevate that object-based audio still further.
