HD resolution TVs are more accessible that ever, but not all HD TVs are equal. It’s worth knowing the difference between standard HD and Full HD before choosing your next television. Full HD refers to 1080p image resolution – the standard resolution of Blu-Ray and many of the HD videos you might find online.

1080p is the vertical resolution (the ‘p’ refers to pixels). Given that most Full HD screens have an aspect ratio of 1.78:1, a typical 1080p screen will have a horizontal ratio of 1,920 pixels. Standard HD TVs (sometimes called ‘HD ready’) have a resolution of 720p – significantly less than a 1080p Full HD TV.

The fact that HD and Full HD are sometimes used interchangeably can lead to confusion, but it’s worth keeping in mind that Full HD televisions have a higher resolution and therefore offer superior image quality. If you want the Full HD experience, it’s a good idea to make sure your TV is 1080p.

All our 1080p televisions are clearly described as Full HD. Alongside our range of Samsung Full HD TVs, you’ll find dedicated Full HD pages for other manufacturers, including Logik, Hisense[ and Philips.

Our collection of Samsung Full HD TVs offers a choice of 32 inch smart televisions that combine detailed 1080p resolution with other image enhancing features. Contrast enhancement and PurColour give more depth and colour contrast to images, creating brighter whites and truer blacks, while Ultra Clean View instantly improves the picture quality of your favourite programmes by filtering and purifying the signal.
