Advice and inspiration

Confused by what TV to choose?

Our FAQs are here to help.

What does QLED mean?

A QLED TV is a Quantum dot-based TV. Quantum-dots – ultra-fine semiconductor materials of nanoscale size – are what makes QLED TVs different from conventional ones. These dots are able to emit precise coloured light and offer “high luminance”. That brightness brings about tremendous changes in overall picture quality.

First, contrast ratio is naturally improved when brightness is higher. When bright and dark representation of images can be widely expressed, it's known as HDR (high dynamic range). This HDR is enhanced further to provide rich and detailed images. And by harnessing the superior brightness of Quantum Dot technology, QLED TVs are able to reach 100% of the DCI-P3 cinematic colour standard. This means you get a wider, more diverse range of colours, no matter what conditions you’re watching TV in.

Unique QLED technology, along with other black implementation technologies such as Direct Full Array, provides an uncompromising picture quality and the most complete viewing experience compared to non-QLED TVs.

What size TV should I get?

TVs come in various sizes, but we recommend selecting the largest size for a truly immersive viewing experience. All TVs have a recommended distance and angle that you will want to consider when setting it up in your home. The best and most immersive viewing experience is when 40 degrees of your field of view is taken up by the screen. This field of view distance can be calculated by just knowing the size of your TV. To get this suitable distance, multiply the screen size by 1.2. So for a 75 inch TV, that means sitting 90 inches, or 2.3 metres away. The higher the resolution of your TV, the closer you can sit to your TV without it showing pixels. If you have the space for a 75 inch screen on your wall, but no such depth in your room, you may want to consider 4K or 8K. For 4K, simply multiply the screen size by 0.6. So, for a 75 inch 4K TV, you can sit 45 inches, or 1.5m metres away.

What is the difference between 4K and 8K resolution?

4K Ultra HD TVs have a resolution of 3,840 horizontal and 2,160 vertical pixels – that’s four times more than traditional Full HD TVs. This naturally entails a remarkable improvement in picture quality by virtue of greater detail, and can be best appreciated on larger screens (and also means you can sit closer to your TV without noticing any pixels). And with all of our 2020 TVs able to upscale content to 4K, you can enjoy everything you watch in amazing 4K – even if it’s not filmed in 4K.

And it gets even better with 8K. 8K TVs have a resolution of 7,680 x 4,320 pixels – for a total of approximately 33 million pixels. That’s the highest resolution TV that has been released recently among UHD (ultra high definition) TVs. With four times more pixels than a 4K TV (and eight times greater than Full HD), 8K TVs display a sharper picture with impressive detail, bringing about the most immersive viewing experience possible. In 8K TVs, pixels are so small they cannot be distinguished even from close up, meaning you can bring in larger screens into your home – without having to re-model.

Buying 8K now means future-proofing your TV. And as native 8K content becomes available, QLED 8K TVs use deep learning to upscale all of your original content – from HD to 4K – into an impressive 8K. So with 8K Upscaling, even 4K looks better on 8K – today.

What is Crystal UHD?

Crystal UHD takes your 4K smart TV viewing to another level, delivering pictures with vibrant and incredibly accurate colour expression. Crystal UHD TVs take advantage of crystal-shaped, inorganic, nano-structured particles and a precise calibration of colour temperature to ensure your pictures feel naturally accurate.

Thanks to advances in Samsung display technology – a combination of finely-tuned backlights, and expertly-crafted colour calibration and filters – you’ll see every moment burst from the screen with crystal clear colour. And with 4K upscaling, you’ll see all you content with the detail and clarity of 4K Ultra HD resolution. And without any distracting wires getting in the way, you can simply relax and enjoy pure, uninterrupted viewing.
