Looking for a Christmas gift for a gadget geek, telly addict, home cinema enthusiast or audiophile? Check out our round-up of some of the winners from the What Hi-Fi? Awards 2014

Blu-ray player - Sony BDP S5200

Sony BDP S5200

What Hi-Fi? named this Sony device the best Blu-ray player up to £150. Judges hailed its crisp, detailed picture, punchy sound and cheap price.

Forgoing a digital display means this is much smaller than many other Blu-ray players, but it's big on performance. Expect sharp contrast rates with deep blacks and whiter whites. It's also impressive when upscaling content to match your HDTV.

Televisions - Samsung UE48H6400

What Hi-Fi? handed this Samsung set product of the year in the TV category. Reviewers acknowledged its brilliant picture quality, smart apps and user-friendly controls.

Expect an impressive picture from this 47-inch full HD LED TV - sharp and clear, with bright whites and inky blacks. Sports fans will also be pleased with how effortlessly the TV processes motion.

The smart TV functions are great for watching Netflix and iPlayer, and will recommend programmes for you to watch based on previous viewing.

4K UHD TV - Samsung UE55HU7500

Samsung UE55HU7500

The next generation of super-sharp TV is 4K, which offers 4 times the resolution of full HD. 2014 has been a breakthrough year for the technology, and this is the first time that a 4K TV has made it into the What Hi-Fi? Awards.

This Samsung set was named best TV in the 52-60 inch category. Its sharp, detailed picture and faithful colour reproduction were praised, whether watching content in 4K or standard HD. It also comes with the necessary HEVC decoder for streaming Netflix in 4K.

On-ear headphones - Bose Quiet Comfort 25

Bose Quiet Comfort 25

What Hi-Fi? named these hi-tech noise-cancelling headphones the best of the year. Judges waxed lyrical about everything from design and sound performance to the 'astonishingly good' noise-cancellation tech.

The sound is clear and precise, while background noise such as chattering colleagues is removed from any listening experience. They're very comfy to wear, too.

Multi-room systems - Sonos

Wireless Multiroom - Sonos Play 1

What Hi-Fi? named Sonos the best multi-room system for £500+.

Sonos allows you to listen to the same or different music across different rooms in your house via a network of wireless speakers connected over Wi-Fi.

Judges praised the fuss-free set up of Sonos, the flexibility of adding new speakers to your network and the 'rich, full-bodied sound'.

Home cinema system - Sony BDV-N5200W

This Sony set-up was named best home cinema system.

It's an all-in-one, meaning you get everything you need for home cinema in a single box - a Blu-ray player, 5 speakers and an amplifier.

Judges praised its crisp, clear and detailed sound, the punchy and clean picture, the colour performance and the impressive dynamics.

Tablet - Apple iPad Air 1

Apple I Pad Air

Apple's iPad Air was named product of the year for tablets. Apple has just unveiled the even-thinner iPad Air 2, but the original iPad Air is still pretty slinky.

It measures just 7.5mm in depth and weighs less than 500g, with everything wrapped in a layer of aluminium. There's no wonder What Hi-Fi? called its build quality 'impeccable'.

The 9.7 inch Retina display also impressed with its brighter whites and blacker blacks. Judges also hailed the faster and more powerful A7 processor.

Radio - Pure Evoke D2

Pure Evoke D2

This was the winner in the best radio up to £100 category.

Pure and digital radio quality go hand in hand. As ever, with the Evoke 2 you get a classy looking DAB and FM radio with detailed sound.

Its elegant wood finish will suit the most stylish of rooms, while the ability to preset as many as 20 of your favourite digital and FM stations means it can also help set the mood.

The team at What Hi-Fi? said it offered impressively rich and detailed sound for a radio in its price range.
