How the Ring Alarm Security Kit makes home security easy

Because protecting your property should be smart and affordable

29 Nov 2019

We can order takeaway on our phone, switch off the lights by asking Alexa, so why shouldn’t home security have a tech solution available to everybody?

That’s what Ring Alarm is all about. There’s no need to fit an expensive CCTV system or have security guards on your doorstep! Now you can get peace of mind in an affordable package which is easy to operate. So, whether you’re at work or on holiday, you can rest assured that your property is in good hands. Yours.

Set up is easy. Just stick the sensors to doors, windows or walls, pair them up in the Ring app and your system is good to go and you can control in from your mobile! We had a look at what the RING Alarm 5-piece security kit had to offer.

What’s included in the 5-Piece Kit?

With the Ring Alarm 5 Piece kit, you'll get everything you need to set up your alarm system yourself - without the need for and expensive installation.

Base Station

This is the hub of your wireless home security network. It comes with a siren and backup battery power for up to 24 hours. So, if you’re running low on battery, you can leave the house and charge up the Base Station later. Phew!

Keypad

Like all security systems, the keypad arms and disarms your Ring Alarm. Plus, you can mount it to walls or carry it around as a portable. It’s up to you.

Motion Detector

When your security is armed, the Motion Detector will detect movement inside your home. You can mount it to room corners or flat walls – so you’ve got the important angles covered.

Contact Sensor

If someone is going to enter your home, they’ll have to come in through a door and window. That’s where the Contact Sensor comes in. It activates when doors or windows open, so mount it to doors or window frames.

Range Extender

You’ll want to make sure that all of your five-piece kit is communicating – so the Range Extender boosts the signal from your Ring Alarm Base Station to other Ring Alarm components.

FAQs

With such a smart device, you may have a lot of questions, so we cover some of them here.

Can pets set off my Ring Alarm?

No, the Ring Alarm’s pet-friendly sensors prevent needless notifications caused by your pets. We all know that the cats like to play while you’re away – but they won’t set off the alarm.

Can I use Alexa with my Ring Alarm?

Yes! The Ring Alarm Base Station lets you connect Ring Alarm components so that you can monitor them through the Ring app. The Ring Alarm Base Station also works with lots of Alexa-enabled devices. This means you can arm, disarm and check the status of your Ring Alarm with your voice. Just say "Alexa, arm Ring Away" when you head out.

Do I need an expert to install my Ring Alarm?

Absolutely not. The Ring Alarm is super smart security, but anybody can set it up. Just plug in the Ring Alarm Base Station, connect your components, set up your account in the Ring app and control your Ring Alarm all with the keypad or from the Ring app. Everything you need is in the box!

What can I control from the Ring app?

If you leave the house without setting the Ring Alarm, no worries. Arm or disarm your Ring Alarm wherever you are from the free Ring app. If there’s a security issue, you can also manually set off your Ring Alarm through the app.

What notifications will I get?

If someone enters a room, opens a window or sets off an alarm, you’ll get notified. You’ll also get pinged when a contact sensor, motion detector or any part of your Alarm system is triggered. You can also change your Alarm modes with a simple tap.

Can I see what’s happening in my home?

That’s one of the reasons it’s super smart and super reassuring. Check your Ring app to find out whether it’s simply a family member coming home early or something more serious. You can also find out if your dog’s been chewing your slippers again!

Will my Ring Alarm work without Wi-Fi?

Yes. You'll still be able to arm and disarm your Ring Alarm via your Ring Keypad. And if something is triggered, you’ll still be able to hear your Ring Alarm activate within the house. With Ring Protect Plus, you'll have Cellular Backup too, just in case your Wi-Fi goes offline.

Ring Protect Plus Plan

While what comes as standard is an impressive package, you can also take your security further:

  • Assisted Monitoring

When you sign up for a Ring Protect Plus Plan and opt into Assisted Monitoring, you’ll get automated calls when your Ring Alarm detects a security issue.

  • Play back video recordings

If someone triggers your Ring Alarm, you’ll be able to look over video footage captured by your other Ring devices – so every angle is covered.
