Remember the days of playing Frogger and Gravitar in the arcade? Now you can relive some of your favourite retro games – with the enhanced features of Steam.

Atari’s just brought out a package of 100 classic arcade games to play on your Steam PC. The best thing? It only takes up around a gigabyte of space on your hard drive and costs less than half the price a new game would. Atari arcade games

What is Steam?

If you haven’t heard of it already, Steam is helping to reshape the way you game on your PC.

In short, it’s an online store for buying and downloading the latest games, which doubles up as a community to chat with other gamers.

One of the best things about Steam is that you can play a lot of games before they’re released elsewhere. And right now Atari Vault is only available on Steam.

Classic arcade games, redesigned

Enjoy all the retro charm of your favourite Atari arcade games, redesigned for today’s gamers. With it you can:

  • Challenge your friends on multiplayer mode
  • Or play online – and see where you stand on the Steam leader boards
  • Feel like you’re playing on an old school arcade trackpad, with all the precision control of Steam’s touch-sensitive controller

If you don’t have a Steam controller, you can use your computer’s mouse and keyboard instead.

What games can you play?

It’s probably easier to list the games you can’t play – choose from classics like Centipede and Tempest, to the seriously old school Pong and Asteroids.

There are heaps of fan favourites included in the package, like Crystal Castles, Video Pinball, Star Raiders and Pole Position – to name a few.

Having trouble choosing? Scroll through them all in the interactive archive to view their original packaging in 3D – and see if that’ll jog your memory.

For even more authentic gameplay, you can listen to their original soundtracks from the 70s and 80s while you’re playing.

To access the games you’ll need a PC that’s running Windows 7 or higher.
