History

Sega's fourth generation video game console, the Sega Mega Drive (known as the Sega Genesis in the US) was the most successful Sega console when it was released in the UK in 1990.

Controversay

Games such as Mortal Kombat caused controversay over censorship, resulting in the console manufacturer establishing the first ever content rating system for video games that allowed it to ship uncensored games, and giving it a competitive edge over Nintendo at the time.

Best selling games

The three top selling games for the Sega Mega Drive console were Aladdin (4 million copies sold), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (6 million) and the original Sonic the Hedgehog (15 million).
