After a long (and pretty awesome) summer, it's now time to pack your pencil case and head back to school. And if you're looking to stay on top of your academic game, you may need to get yourself a new laptop.

But we know that you don't just want a laptop to help you to complete you assignments. Maybe you have a vast collection of Steam games, which will mean that you'll want something with a big processor, or perhaps you're a film buff or YouTube fanatic looking for a laptop with a pin-sharp display.

Whatever the case may be, here at Currys PC World we've got you covered. Ranging for budget to high end, our list of laptops will certainly help you to pick out a device for the upcoming school year.

          1.       Acer Aspire V5-122P Notebook

This compact 11.6 inch subnotebook has a very refined design, which along with its responsive IPS touchscreen, makes it an absolute joy to use.

What's more, the Aspire V5 is packing some pretty decent hardware. It's powered by the new A6-1450 quad-core processor by AMD, which makes it pretty good for multitasking. That means that you can listen to music, watch a film, and have multiple web-browsers open while working on that important essay. Not that we recommend doing any of that... of course.

Another thing that will certainly appeal is the Aspire V5's compact size. This makes it perfect for students who value a mobile and stylish laptop, and want to simply chuck it in to their bag on their way to class or the library.

          2.       Apple Macbook Air 2013

Without a doubt, the Macbook Air is one of the best laptops currently on the market. With around 10 hours battery life, a 4th generation Intel Haswell processor, and a clear (although not retina quality) 13.3 inch display, using a Macbook Air proves to be a smooth and intuitive experience. This is all housed within a sleek aluminium body, which makes Apple's flagship laptop one of the most desirable devices to own.

Although it's not necessarily a budget piece of kit, the Macbook Air proves to be a fantastic laptop for students. Not only does its day long battery mean that you can attend lectures and write you essays without having to lug around your charger, but connecting to Wi-Fi is now faster as the Macbook Air offers us 802.11ac wireless internet. This is up to 3 times as fast as wireless n whilst giving you a better range.

          3.       Samsung Series 7 Ultra NP74OU3E

Technically an "Ultrabook", the Intel powered Samsung Series 7 Ultra is designed to take care of homework before playing a cheeky couple of games of Battlefield or Call of Duty. Running on Windows 8, the 13.3 inch high-end laptop packs a dedicated AMD Radeon HD 8750M graphics card, which makes this laptop absolutely ideal for gaming.

Other notable features include a 1,920 x 1,080 touchscreen display, which is great for streaming HD videos, as well as a 1.8GHz processor and 6BG of RAM that leads to a powerful performance. Much like the Macbook Air, the Samsung Series 7 is more geared towards the higher end of the market, currently being priced at £999.

This provides a normal running speed of 1.8 GHz, while it can reach an impressive 2.7 GHz with turbo boost technology. So whether you're editing a video for your film project, working on an essay with multiple tabs open, or even listening to music or playing a game in your free time, the Fit 15 is capable of dealing with challenging processing tasks quickly and efficiently.

          5.       HP Envy TouchSmart 14" Sleekbook

Running on the Windows 8 Operating System, this stylish laptop offers users a 14-inch LED-backlit LCD touchscreen display with a 1366 x 768 pixel HD native resolution, an 1.8GHz Intel Core processor, 6GB RAM, as well as integrated HD Graphics.
