The revamped Huawei MateBook X 13” and Pro 13.9”

Last year’s MateBook X Pro took one of the top spots for a super-portable laptop after it won the Innovation Award at MWC 2018. So, it’s no surprise that this year’s upgraded version has a lot to shout about. And the best bit is - it's available to buy right now!

The updated Huawei Matebook X Pro boasts a 91% screen-to-body ratio for an almost borderless view, and a resolution of 3,000 x 2,000 pixels with a 3:2 aspect ratio, delivering the brightest and most detailed pictures. And, with a quad-speaker set up, you get an immersive audio experience too. To make sure the machine can keep up, the processor is 10% faster than the last one, and the new Nvidia-designed graphics card is 3.5 x faster, so you’ll never miss a beat.

All this is housed in a metal unibody case, which has diamond-cut edges with a sandblasted finish for a sleek and elegant style. Yet even with all that packed in, it’s thinner (14.6mm) and lighter (1.33kg) than the previous version. It’s smart too. There’s a fingerprint scanner with an independent security chip built into the power button, so with just one press, it knows it’s you. And you’re sure to have enough room for all your pictures and videos with 1TB of storage.

To transfer all your stuff to the laptop, another standout feature is ‘OneHop’. It’s a new wireless way to get all your pictures, videos and other documents from your phone to your computer, or vice-versa. The transfer point is found on the right of the trackpad, and all you need to do is tap your phone on it and you can instantly send from your phone’s gallery. Or, if you shake your phone then tap your MateBook, your phone will record what’s on your laptop screen for 60 seconds.
All these features need a lot of power, so the MateBook X and Pro come with an internal 57.4Wh battery. Both are capable of providing 14 hours of office use, 13 hours of video playback or 12 hours of web browsing, so even the busiest day won’t leave you searching for a plug socket.

The MateBook 14 – all the power with a lower price

For a laptop that’s capable of packing a punch without the luxury price tag of the MateBook X Pro, Huawei revealed the MateBook 14 at MWC 2019. It’s got all the performance of the premium Pro but comes with fewer luxury features, which helps keep the price low.

It’s got a speedy processor for quick performance, and Intel UHD Graphics for vibrant and stunning colours that you can enjoy on the 14-inch 2,160 x 1,440-pixel touchscreen. The 256GB SSD should be plenty of space for your files, documents and images, but things are kept safe from prying eyes with the fingerprint scanner in the power button.

The biggest differences between the MateBook 14 and its luxury counterpart are the screen that we just mentioned, but also the ports on-hand. You get one USB-C 3.1 port (charging), one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port and an HDMI port, so you shouldn’t be left having to decide what you want to connect, even if your phone could do with a few minutes of charging.

Embedded in the keyboard is the webcam, the same as the Pro, which means the bezels are super-thin and allow for the impressive full-screen look.

Even with all this, it’s still got the lasting power of the Pro thanks to its 57.4Whr battery, so you can expect it to stay charged for up to 14 hours of office use. Surely no one has that many meetings every day!
