While both offer incredible experiences, Windows Mixed Reality Ultra provides better graphics and performance, more apps at once, and more ways to share.
Windows Mixed Reality is easier to set-up (10 minutes or less1), affordable, and more portable because no external sensor installation is needed – everything you need is built into the headset.
Set-up time for a Windows Mixed Reality headset is usually under 10 minutes. Additional time may be required the first time to make sure your device has the necessary Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
Content & Experience
Windows Mixed Reality is designed for individuals 13 and older. Children 12 or younger should not use Windows Mixed Reality for safety reasons, even with parent or guardian consent.
Windows Mixed Reality combines the best VR games available today - including Steam (coming soon) - with unique exclusive experiences like Halo Recruit and support for over 20,000 existing UWP apps.
Steam and Microsoft have announced that Steam2 will support the Windows Mixed Reality platform at some point in the future.
Oculus is not currently supported.
Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro both support Windows Mixed Reality; however, Windows 10 S does not.

Hardware
You only need three things: a compatible Windows 10 PC, the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, and the headset with motion controllers.
Adjustment straps and other features (i.e. adjusting focus) vary based on manufacturer.
Glasses designed to focus on far away objects (i.e. driving glasses) will work with Windows Mixed Reality headsets; however, those designed for close objects (i.e. reading glasses) may not.
60hz and 90hz are refresh rates – the rate at which images you see are refreshed. The higher the rate, the smoother the movement. All Windows Mixed Reality headsets can deliver both, which is determined by your PC.
Devices that have been tested to work well with Windows Mixed Reality will be clearly identified in retail and online. Only these devices should be recommended. We will continue to work with manufacturers to expand the list of compatible devices.
The Windows Mixed Reality PC Check app in the Windows Store will scan any Windows 10 PC and determine if it has necessary hardware and software to run Windows Mixed Reality. Most older PCs (before 7th gen Intel Core i) will not be compatible.
