Exciting things are happening in the world of handsets. And one recent highlight has been Samsung Fold and Flip phones. Gone are the days when screen size is measured by the size of your pockets! Foldable phones give you more screen in a way that’s easy to carry about.

And right now Samsung have two new releases: the Galaxy Z Flip5 and the Galaxy Z Fold5. These two foldable wonders are ready to dazzle with their sleek designs and cutting-edge features, but which one should you choose? Let's dive in and compare these two foldable champs to help you make your pick.

Samsung Z Flip5 vs. Samsung Z Fold5: Displays & Size

The good news is that whichever phone you pick, both phones have a Dynamic AMOLED screen with their 120 Hz refresh rates – so using either phone feels seamless and smooth.

The difference is in the size. If you’re after a larger screen, it has to be the Fold5. Its huge 7.6” display folds in half. Meanwhile the Z Flip5 has a smaller screen at 6.7” - which is still a lot of screen.

So, if you watch a lot of videos on your phone, you’ll probably appreciate the Fold’s bigger screen. But if you want a phone that folds down very small and can fit into a pocket or purse, it’s all about the Flip5.

When folded away, its cover screen gets down to 3.4”. With the Flip also weighing in at 303g (as opposed to the Fold’s 454g), it’s clearly the more portable option.

Samsung Z Flip5 vs. Samsung Z Fold5: Design

Both phones have that unmistakable Flex hinge, that smoothly flips and folds with almost no gap. But what each phone does with its hinge is very different.

The Z Flip5's clamshell design is compact and stylish. Meanwhile, the Z Fold5 follows the traditional smartphone design but unfolds into something that feels more like a tablet.

So, it’s all about what design appeals most. Are you a trendsetter who wants to be able to pack loads of phone into a small package, or are you all about having a more traditional-sized smartphone than can fold out to tablet proportions?

Samsung Z Flip5 vs. Samsung Z Fold5: Specs

Both phones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but the Fold5 has 12 GB of RAM to the Flip5’s 8 GB. The Fold5 can also store 512GB compared to the Flip5’s 256 GB. So, if you like to store files, apps and games locally on your phone*, you’ll have more space with the Fold. That said, with that bigger screen on offer, you’re more likely to be storing more downloaded movies and more powerful apps anyway.

Samsung Z Flip5 vs. Samsung Z Fold5: Performance & battery life

Performance-wise, both phones have great performance, but the Z Fold5's extra RAM gives it the edge – but you’d expect that with its larger screen.

As for battery life, the Z Flip5's smaller size means a smaller battery (3700 mAh vs 4400 mAh), but both phones should get you through the day without breaking a sweat.

Samsung Z Flip5 vs. Samsung Z Fold5: Price

The Z Flip5 comes in at a more affordable price – currently one-third less than the Fold - making it a great entry point into the foldable world. However, if you're ready to invest more, the Z Fold5 also offers great bang for your buck with its larger display and more powerful specs.

Samsung Z Flip5 vs. Samsung Z Fold5: Cameras

If more cameras = better, then the Z Fold5’s triple-lens setup (led by a 50 MP cam) and dual front cam is the obvious pick. Add in the fact that it can shoot 8K video at 30 fps, and it’s obviously a really impressive set up.

That said, if you’re into selfies and taking quick snaps, the Z Flip5's dual camera will definitely still give you great pics. And it can also shoot video in 4K at 60 fps too.

And while hardware is important, it’s the software that does the hard work of making pictures look amazing. Both phones share features like Night mode, Hyperlapse and Single Take – which uses AI to capture multiple videos and pictures using different filters and effects.

Samsung Z Flip5 vs. Samsung Z Fold5: which one should you buy?

So, which one should you go for? If you're all about style, portability and that iconic flip-phone nostalgia, the Z Flip5 could be your match. But if you crave a tablet experience in your pocket, the Z Fold5 might just blow you away. It all boils down to personal taste and what you most use your phone for.
