Ideal for taking photographs in tough conditions, Panasonic Tough cameras boast robust designs. They are waterproof, dustproof, shockproof and freezeproof, letting you take high quality photographs almost anywhere you go, whether you’ve scrambled to the top of a mountain or you’re endeavouring in some underwater photography.
Ideal for shooting on a beach, snorkelling underwater or making a splash in the pool, Panasonic Tough cameras have a waterproof case which lets you take aquatic images without the fear of a broken camera. If your camera gets dirty, it can be washed using water.
No matter how tough the terrain, these cameras are designed to tackle it. The Panasonic FT series cameras are shockproof, making them perfect for photographs of tough outdoor activities or extreme sports. Take your photos without worrying about a knock affecting your camera’s performance.
Even extreme temperatures are no match for Tough cameras. Take photos of your winter sports holiday or a day of snow with these Panasonic cameras, which are made to cope with the freezing temperatures.
You won’t have to worry about sand and dust entering your camera thanks to the dustproof design of Panasonic Tough cameras. This makes them ideal for use on the beach or in the desert, where other cameras may struggle with sand.
How to take a good picture of something that’s underwater
Taking photos of fish from above the water’s surface can be difficult to achieve as your camera tends to capture the reflection on the surface of the water, so your images won’t have the clear effect that you want to achieve. To tackle this problem, try changing the contrast and brightness settings before you take your photo. Make sure you’re changing your camera settings and not just adjusting the LCD screen brightness, which won’t have any effect on the photo you take.
The Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ200 and FZ62 have a scene mode which may help to overcome this problem. It is called Glass Through, which is specially designed to help you take photographs through glass, such as when you take photos out of the window of a plane. Glass Through mode can prove useful when taking photographs from above the water’s surface too. This is because the reflective surface of the water is similar to taking a photo through a pane of glass.
For the ultimate in underwater photography, all you need is a Panasonic Lumix FT camera, which is fully waterproof up to 13 m (FT5). This means that you can avoid reflections by getting under the water’s surface!
I’ve taken a picture underwater but the colours are dull and there’s no detail. What’s happened
When you are taking pictures underwater, the water acts a filter, blocking out some of the sunlight and particularly the red end of the spectrum. This means that not as much light is reaching the sensor of your camera, making the images appear dull. Adjusting the white-balance on your camera can help to restore the colour and give some life to your underwater photograph.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT5 and DMC-FT25 Tough cameras have an underwater scene mode which can be selected when you’re taking photos underwater. This senses the changes which need to be made to your white-balance and makes these changes to your settings automatically. This helps to keep your photo crisp and fresh without the discolouring effect of the water.
