The Dyson Airwrap is a fabulous multi-styler. Rather than extreme heat, it uses the power of air to dry, shape, and volumise your hair — keeping your locks nice and healthy. And it comes with loads of attachments that let you change up your look. Bouncy curls, beachy waves, silky-smooth tresses — whatever you fancy!
But over time, your Airwrap will suck up tiny bits of dust, fluff, and hair product that’ll end up blocking its filter. This will weaken your device’s airflow and affect how well it can style your hair.
The good news? Our guide has all the filter cleaning tips you’ll need to keep your Airwrap in top shape. And best of all — it’ll only take you a few minutes.
What you’ll need:
Dyson C-brush or a dry toothbrush
Microfibre cloth
Kitchen roll or towel
Why do you need to clean a Dyson Airwrap filter?
Before we look at the steps for clearing out your Airwrap’s filter, here are the main reasons why it’s important to give your Dyson multi-styler some regular TLC:
Better performance: A clean filter that’s free of fluff and debris will mean the best possible airflow for your Airwrap. That way, you can always get the most of its attachments for consistent, salon-quality hair every time.
Prevents overheating: A clogged filter will make your Dyson Airwrap overheat, causing it to cut out while you’re using it.
It’ll last longer: By preventing overheating through regular care, you’ll extend the life of your Airwrap for years of happy styling.
How often should I clean my Dyson Airwrap’s filter?
This depends on how often you use it, but Dyson recommends clearing an Airwrap’s filter at least once a month. If you’re forgetful, the Airwrap does have a flashing light that’ll give you a heads up when it’s time for a clean.
Step-by-step guide for cleaning a Dyson Airwrap filter
The good news is that you won't need a screwdriver to take your Airwrap apart! Just grab the cleaning brush that came with your multi-styler and you’ll be all set. Follow these steps to clean out your Airwrap’s filter:
Remove the filter cage:
Unplug your Airwrap: Safety first! And if you’ve just styled your hair with your Airwrap, let it cool off before cleaning.
Take off the plastic filter cage: Pinch the filter cage at the bottom of your Airwrap and gently pull it down to pop it off the handle.
Slide the filter over your Airwrap’s cable: Carefully pull the filter cage apart and use the open gap to remove it from around the power cable.
Use the Dyson cleaning brush:
Pass the C-brush over the cable: Thanks to its ‘C‘ shape, you can easily slide the C-brush over your Airwrap’s cable at the base of the handle.
Work the C-brush over the filter mesh: Use a twisting motion to loosen and remove dust.
Clean the C-brush: Once you’ve thoroughly scrubbed the filter mesh, give the C-brush a once over with a dry microfibre cloth to get rid of any stuck bits of dirt.
Use the C-brush on the filter cage: You can also use the C-brush to to clean the outside of the filter cage you took off earlier.
Rinse and dry the filter cage:
Rinse off the filter cage and C-brush: Run both Airwrap parts under warm running water. Gently rub your fingers and thumbs over them to remove stuck bits of debris.
Add shampoo to your C-brush: Put a tiny amount on your fingertip and work it into the C-brush’s bristles.
Lightly scrub the filter cage: Use circular up and down motions to clean every part. Do not use the wet C-brush on the filter mesh on your Airwrap — only the filter cage.
Rinse off the shampoo: Make sure to wash off all the shampoo from the filter cage and C-brush. 20 seconds under the tap should do the trick.
Shake off any excess water: You can also tap it against the side of your sink. Then use some kitchen roll to dry off the filter cage and C-brush.
Let the filter cage air dry: Give it an hour or two before clipping it back onto your Airwrap.
FAQs
Why does my Dyson Airwrap keep stopping?
If your Airwrap keeps cutting out or its airflow is weak, it’s most likely due to the filter being blocked. A clogged filter can lead to overheating, so your Dyson Airwrap will shut itself off to protect its internals from getting too hot.
How do I clean my Dyson Airwrap filter without the brush?
If you’ve lost the C-brush that came with your Dyson Airwrap, just use a soft and dry toothbrush instead. It’ll scrub away dust and debris just as well.
How do you clean Dyson Airwrap attachments?
If you’re using hair sprays or mousses as part of your styling routine, it can cause buildups to form on your Dyson Airwrap’s attachments. That’s why it’s a good idea to wipe them down with a damp cloth after each use. Just make sure they’re fully dry before using them again.
