Once again, we’re celebrating Pride with the LGBTQIA+ community. And along with everything else happening across stores nationwide, we’re officially walking in London Pride this year on 1st July with over 50 colleagues.

Currys LGBTQ+ Network was built from the ground up by a group of Currys colleagues and allies. It quickly became a place to share some amazing stories and build a LGBTQIA+ space at Currys – and it has gone from strength to strength ever since!

To celebrate Pride, we’ve created a series of 7 videos to share the stories of some our incredible colleagues. Watch them below and be sure to follow our hashtag #PrideAtCurrys on social media for more updates and news.

Meet our colleagues!

Sarjan Hira

Sarjan joined Currys when he was 16 and is now 23 – and has seen Currys as a safe space to be himself. For Sarjan, Pride is all about love, happiness and joy – and sharing it with others!

Angela Dickinson

Angela’s an ally of the community and is passionate about learning from and amplifying LGBTQ+ voices. And a big Ru Paul fan too! She encourages everyone to get involved in Pride, regardless of background: “We’re all just people at the end of the day.”

Paris Joy

Paris Joy is a passionate member of the Pride at Currys Committee (more about that below). Recently she’s been involved in the creation of a ‘Transition at work’ policy which aims to support colleagues undertaking gender realignment.

Andrew Wood

Andrew welcomes the little changes that have made a big difference at Currys, like the use of pronouns on name badges. He has some advice for people trying to find their own identity: “Don’t rush. There’s no need to label anything. You’re a person, not a label. Just be you.”

Zoe Pearce

Zoe sees Currys as a business for everyone – which fits in with what she thinks Pride should be about: “Pride for me means love and acceptance for everybody in a safe space where everyone can feel welcome and accepted.”

Stephen Evans

Stephen helped create the Currys LGBTQ+ Network and is currently the Joint Committee Chair. He sees Pride as a time for celebration and visibility. But it’s also a great time to raise awareness about the challenges that LGBTQ+ people still face in 2023.

Stuart Bonner

Stuart believes that Pride is a good time to reflect on how far we’ve come but also how far we have to go. But he also sees Pride as a joyous, happy atmosphere full of colour, fun and glitter!

What is Pride at Currys?

Pride at Currys is an LGBTQ+ network that has worked to drive some exciting changes to the business. That’s included getting out to celebrate Manchester Pride, adding pronoun options to name badges or changing uniform policy so each colleague can choose a feminine or masculine uniform.

Pride at Currys has also helped with the development of a new Gender Reassignment policy, along with training for the business in equality, diversity and inclusion in the workforce. They’re also aiming to create an LGBTQ+ Charter of Rights – which protects colleagues from discrimination and removes barriers to accessing employment or support.
