A roast dinner is one of life’s great pleasures. If you master it, your friends and family will be beyond impressed. To help you become the roast host with the most, here are three ovens with clever tech to make your cooking taste amazing.

An oven that gets doneness right

It can be tricky knowing when your roast lamb, beef or pork is at just the right level of doneness. There’s nothing worse than crossing your fingers and cutting off a few slices, only to discover the middle’s too rare or (eek!) too well done. Let’s make all that drama a thing of the past, with an oven that gets it right every time.

This AEG BSE774320M electric oven has a SenseCook feature that takes the guesswork out of cooking the perfect roast. It’s all thanks to the built-in food sensor - simply tell the oven what you'd prefer (rare, medium, or well done), and stick the sensor into your roast. When it’s done to perfection, the oven lets you know. It really is as simple as that.

The helpful tech doesn’t end there. This oven is self-cleaning, using pyrolytic technology to save you one of the kitchen’s grimiest chores. When you turn on the pyrolytic self-cleaning function, intense heat turns cooking residue into ash, so all you have to do is wipe it away once everything’s cooled down.

An oven that does different temperatures at the same time

A proper roast dinner is made up of different dishes, and this Samsung series 4 electric oven is especially good at doing more than one thing at once. It uses Dual Cook™ technology to help you cook at two different temperatures at the same time. So everything’s perfectly ready when it’s time to dish up.

Simply split the oven into different sections using the inbuilt divider shelf, and you can then set different temperatures for each cooking zone. With a flexible door that’s hinged in the middle and opens in two parts, you can check on the food cooking in the top compartment without losing heat in the bottom. Oh, and to save energy, you can also use your divider to heat up a smaller area.

And finally, catalytic liners make cleaning a doddle. Grease and oil is broken down at high temperatures, then all you need to do is simply brush it off. Great roasts, energy saving and easy to clean – this oven’s got loads going for it.

An oven that cooks different dishes evenly

One of the things you’ll love about the NEFF N50 Slide&Hide electric oven is its CircoTherm feature, which cooks your meals evenly on up to three levels. The high-speed airflow moves heat throughout the oven, so you can stack all your dishes from top to bottom and they’ll all get the heat they need. You’ll be able to cook a sumptuous roast and your favourite fruit crumble at the same time.

The hideaway door is a really neat design feature. It retracts under the oven and stays out of your way, freeing you up to test, baste, taste and add that finishing touch to your dishes. And because the door doesn’t take up any extra space, your oven will comfortably handle a full roast with all the trimmings.

Then when dinner’s done, the pyrolytic cleaning feature turns food residue into ash that can be wiped away – when everything’s nice and cool, of course.

We’ve listed some ovens that do awesome roasts above, but there are lots of decent alternatives like air fryers. For some inspiration, here’s how to cook a whole chicken without roasting it.
