It doesn’t matter if you’re an audiophile or casual listener, wireless in-ears are one of the most accessible ways to get straight into your music, podcasts and content. They take up virtually no space and you can take them anywhere and listen freely on the go, without feeling weighed down by a cable linked to your phone.

Above all, we love the convenience of True Wireless earphones. With no wire between each earbud or leading to your music source, no longer do you have to wait around at home until your headphones charge. Just pop them in your charging case, put your case in your pocket and head out. They’re there whenever you need them.

Sony’s True Wireless earphones are packed with clever tech that keeps you focused on your go-to content, even in noisy places. Let’s take a look at them:

Everyday listening – Sony WF-XB700

True-Wireless earphones tend to be a little pricier than wireless earphones connected by a cable, but Sony WF-XB700 Bluetooth Earphones are great for getting into your playlists in seconds without breaking the bank.

These trusty earbuds come with a whopping 9 hours of battery on a single charge, and another 9 hours on top when you use the charging case. They won’t fall out when you’re going for a jog or running to make the train, either. Each earbud stays in contact with three different parts of your ear thanks to Sony’s clever tri-hold system. And they’re water and sweat resistant too, so they’re good to go in all kinds of weather.

If you’re like us and can’t bear to leave home without your headphones, you’ll be wowed by the Sony WF-XB700’s fast charging smarts. Just pop the earbuds into the case and carry on with your routine if you’re low on juice. In 10 minutes, you’ll have enough power for a full hour of music. Gone are the days of waiting around at home for passable battery life.

Getting the answers you need from your voice assistant is easy peasy. Whether you’ve got an Android phone or iPhone, WF-XB700s work with both Siri and Google Assistant. So, no need to root around for your phone to make an appointment or check the weather forecast.

And then there’s the booming sound. With Sony’s Extra Bass ramping up the lower end of the EQ, the WF-XB700s are a dance music lover’s dream. We’re big fans of Sony’s wired Extra Bass headphones, and it’s great to hear that signature low-frequency detail in a more compact, cable-free design.

Work out in peace – Sony WF-SP800N

Ever been to the gym and struggled to hear your own music over the gym soundtrack? Sony WF-SP800N earphones put an end to that once and for all with a killer combo of digital noise cancelling and adaptive sound control.

Noise-cancelling on these earbuds is super-impressive. It’ll cut out distracting sounds when you’re out, in the gym and everywhere in-between, so you can keep focus. It’s even useful for staying in the zone when you’re working, creating or relaxing at home.

Adaptive Sound Control is smart enough to work out when you’re sitting still, walking, running or on transport, and adjusts the ambient sound to best suit your environment. And you can still stay safe, even when you’re tuning out the world around you. Ambient Sound Mode mixes environmental sounds, like traffic, so you can keep alert.

Skipping songs and adjusting the volume couldn’t be easier. Intuitive touch controls mean all you have to do is tap your earbuds to play, pause, skip, adjust the sound and answer incoming calls. So, even when your phone’s buried at the bottom of your bag, you’re still fully in control of your playlist.

The soft-cushioned arc supports and 3D curve design mean these little earbuds stay sturdy and comfortable even when you’re running. Combined with IP55 water, dust and sweat resistance, you can take them out in the elements and know that they’re tough enough.

Nobody likes to constantly recharge their devices throughout the day, and with Sony WF-SP800N earphones, you don’t have to. A full charge keeps these earbuds running for 13 hours, while the charging case can recharge all the way to full for another 13. That’s over a full day without needing any wires. And just like the WF-XB700 earbuds, 10 minutes charging will give you a full hour when you’re running low.

Premium audio, anywhere – Sony WF-1000XM3

The sound quality of Sony WF-1000XM3 Wireless Earphones is as good as it gets. The QN1e Noise Cancelling Processor cuts out external sounds to a standard that gives over-ears a run for their money. That’s because the earbuds have two microphones that deliberately pick up outside sounds to minimise them.

The processor also features a digital-to-analogue converter, with the power to upscale compressed MP3 files to make them sound much higher res. High res audio files can take up four times the storage of an MP3, so the ability to recreate that sound without burning through space is a serious perk.

Once they’re connected, they stay connected throughout. Occasional lost connections and latency can impact the best Bluetooth earphones, but Sony WF-1000XM3 get around that with a new chip and clever antenna design. That means whatever you watch, you’ll never hear the audio lagging behind the visuals.

We like controls that are easy to get to grips with, and the touch controls here are accessible for everyone. Double-tapping the right earbud changes track, while a single tap of the left switches sound modes. But if you don’t like the default layout, you can always switch up the buttons to whatever you like in the Sony Headphones Connect app. You can even assign your voice assistant so they’re always a tap away. That’s handy.

Once you’ve got your buttons sorted, you can listen for well over a day. On a full charge, Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds have 8 hours battery, and the storage case charges them another three times over. Forgetting to charge your headphones simply isn’t ‘a thing’ anymore. The fast charging here is so fast, just 10 minutes in the case gives 90 minutes of power. You can charge them up in your pocket while walking to the station and have enough battery for the full journey when you get there. It doesn’t get much better than that.
