Why is it called Black Friday?

The name ‘Black Friday’ is in reference to the day when shops’ accounts move into the black (profit) from the red (loss).

What time does Black Friday start?

This year, Black Friday begins at midnight on Thursday, 23 November, the start of the first Friday after the Thanksgiving holiday in the US. However, we will offer some Black Friday deals in the run-up to the day and afterwards. For those choosing to shop in-store on the day, we keep to normal working hours and doors will open at 9 am or 10 am (depending on the branch).

Early Black Friday deals Currys

Make sure you plan to browse and buy before the busiest times of the day. We recommend you start shopping as early as possible to ensure you get the deal you want, just in case we run out of stock. For online shopping, aim to complete purchases before 9 am, as our site has the most visitors between 9 am and 10 am, which may slow things down a little.

When does Black Friday end?

Black Friday runs until midnight online or, for those choosing to shop in person, until closing time at 6 pm or 8 pm depending on the store.

However, for those wondering ‘when do Black Friday sales end?’ well, most deals will only be available during Black Friday. But we will be offering some deals after today and new online promotions on Cyber Monday, which takes place on Monday 27 November 2023.
