I recently upgraded from my trusty (but ancient) seven-year-old laptop to a new HP Omnibook X Flip with Windows 11. I’ve been eyeing up all the new laptops at work, because my old one was approaching end of life. I’d dropped it a few times, the screen was cracked and the battery life was dreadful. And talk about slow. Emails opened so slowly, sometimes it would’ve been faster for people to send me a fax.
Honestly, who knew my old laptop was holding me back as much as it was. An updated laptop has changed the game, and here’s why…
It’s the roadrunner of laptops
I had no idea how much my old laptop was slowing me down—literally and metaphorically—until I upgraded to my new HP Omnibook X Flip. It’s powered by an Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 processor, with 16GB of RAM and a big 512GB SSD. In everyday language, that means I can have half my computers apps open at once without the spinning wheel of doom making an appearance.
And gone are the days of closing tabs to open others, or praying that my apps wouldn’t crash. I can juggle multiple projects, hop between apps like it’s nothing, and generally just get stuff done—without the stress, the fan noise, or the fear that my laptop might combust under pressure.
The battery goes on, and on, and on!
I knew the battery would be better than my old laptop, which would wheeze its way to 20% before I’d even finished a meeting. But this battery is seriously long-lasting. They say it can go for up to 26 hours, but I’ve been getting a solid 16 to 18 hours of actual, real-life use.
Now, I can get all my work done, and still have enough juice left to watch my Netflix before bed. And if I’m out and about, I no longer have to panic-search for a plug socket.
Windows 11…so good!
Windows 11 is slick. Everything feels cleaner, a lot faster and just a bit more grown-up. The redesigned Start menu actually makes sense now (no offence, Windows 8), multitasking is smoother with Snap Layouts, and little touches—like the rounded corners and fresh icons—make it all feel a bit more premium. Plus, it just gets me: from personalised widgets to better touch controls, it’s like my laptop’s finally in tune with how I work. Or at least trying really hard to be.
What I can do now vs before
I can juggle multiple projects at once - no freezing, no lag, no crashing apps. Just smooth multitasking magic.
Battery anxiety? Gone. I can work (or binge) for hours without being glued to a plug socket all day.
New laptops are so much thinner than my old one. My HP Omnibook is thin enough to pop into my bag. It follows me everywhere.
Movies, shows, even video calls look and sound better thanks to the crisp screen and upgraded audio.
The CoPilot features are surprisingly handy. Writer’s block? Not today. CoPilot jumps in with ideas, edits, and rewrites before I’ve even finished my coffee.
