Got yourself a JVC Fire Edition Smart TV but having trouble with the remote? No need to fret. There are a few simple things you can do to get your remote up and running again.

And good thing too, since using your Alexa remote can make things a whole lot easier! Not only does it do all the basic things you’d expect, but it can do it all using just your voice.

But back down to business. How can you get it working?

Is your remote paired to your Fire TV?

First, check whether your remote’s actually connected to your TV. The JVC Fire Edition TV remote control links to your TV via Bluetooth, so you want to make sure that’s all working.

To find out if you’re connected, press the Alexa button on the remote. This is the round button at the top that has a picture of a microphone. Now, what happens to the LED light when you do that?

It’s orange and blinking: The remote’s in IR (Infa-red) mode, looking for a Fire TV to pair with. So you need to pair it with your TV- more on that below.

It’s blue and blinking: Your remote’s already paired to a Fire TV. If it’s still not working on the TV you want it to, it might mean that it’s connected to a different Fire TV nearby. We’ll tell you below how to link it with your particular TV.

There’s no light on: This means your remote is paired to another Fire TV that’s not turned on. Or it could mean that the batteries have run out! If turning the TV on or changing the batteries doesn’t work, you’ll need to link it to your TV.

Red light: Your batteries are running low it could be a good time to replace them.

How to get your remote paired with your Fire TV

There are two main steps to this: resetting your remote and then pairing it to your TV.

Reset your remote

When you reset your remote, you tell it to start over. It ‘forgets’ the device it’s already connected to, so it can connect or re-connect to a different one. To reset your remote:

1. Press and hold down the left button on the navigation wheel, the back button and the option buttons. Hold them all down at the same time for 10 seconds.

2. Check that the remote’s reset by pressing the Alexa button. If the remote’s been reset, the Alexa button will blink orange.

3. If it hasn’t reset, try the steps above again- just make sure you’re holding those buttons down for the full 10 seconds!

Pair your remote

Now that it’s reset, it should be ready to pair with your TV. If you’re setting up your Fire TV for the first time, the TV should take you through the set-up process. Just follow the instructions onscreen!

But if you’ve gone through set-up before and want to pair again, try this:

1. Go to Settings > Remotes and Bluetooth Devices > Voice Remotes with Alexa > Add New Remote

2. Highlight ‘Add new remote’ and press select.

3. All that’s left is to follow the onscreen instructions!

I still can’t pair my remote!

That’s okay, sometimes your TV might just need a restart to give it a nudge. Then you can try the pairing process again.

Restart your TV

Here’s how to restart your Fire TV:

1. Go to Settings > Device & Software > Restart

2. Highlight ‘Restart’ and press select.

3. Confirm you want to restart by selecting ‘Restart’ and pressing select again.

After a few seconds, your TV will have restarted! Now try pairing your remote again. Everything should be working this time. If it’s not, let’s try giving your TV a factory reset.

Factory reset your TV

Giving your TV a factory reset will take your TV right back to its settings straight out the box. That means you’ll need to reconnect to your Wi-Fi, setup your Amazon account and tune your TV again. Basically start from scratch! Here’s what you need to do:

• Go to Settings > Device & Software > Reset to Factory Defaults

• Highlight ‘Reset to Factory Defaults’ and press select.

• Confirm you want to reset by selecting ‘Reset’ and then pressing select again.

• Wait for a few minutes and your TV should take you through the whole setup process, including pairing your remote.
