When you buy a Samsung product, you don’t just get a piece of standalone tech. You get a smart product that’s part of the almost-endless Samsung SmartThings ecosystem, designed to make your life easier (with lots of energy saving benefits too). Let’s take a look at how Samsung makes all this possible.

How does the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem work?

All compatible smart Samsung products are designed to work in the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem, from appliances like robot vacs, doorbells and TVs, to the Galaxy range of tablets, laptops, mobiles, smartwatches and headphones. As well as the product itself, you’ll need a compatible smartphone and internet connection.

To use SmartThings, download the Samsung SmartThings app* from the Galaxy Store, Play Store or App store onto your phone.

* The app requires Android OS 9 (or later) or iOS 14 (or later) with a minimum of 3GB RAM space.

Follow the onscreen instructions to get set up, and you can now control the Samsung appliances dotted around your home.

And it’s not just Samsung devices that you have control over. In fact, you can control 100s of other compatible smart home devices, including Amazon Echo speakers, Philips Hue lighting, Nest thermostats and lots more.

How can the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem make my life easier?

With so many different devices capable of being connected, the possibilities are almost endless.

What about cleaning your home while you’re out on a stroll? Yep, really. You can control a Samsung Robot Vacuum with your Samsung Galaxy phone from anywhere. So even if you’re miles away, you can make it start cleaning, and even see how it’s getting on in real time by checking out the view from the Jet Bot camera.

Want to see who’s at the door without getting up from your couch? Well, when someone presses your Ring Video Doorbell, you can set it up so the Ring picture is shown on your Samsung QLED TV*. And if you want to zoom in and expand the picture for a better look, you can use your Samsung Galaxy phone as a remote.

*Requires a compatible Ring Video doorbell, Samsung Watch and SmartThings account.

Busy in the kitchen, but can still hear the kids starting to argue in the living room? With screen mirroring, you can stream content from your phone straight onto the living room TV*, without missing a beat of your meal prep.

* Requires a compatible smartphone and internet connection.

How else can Samsung make my life easier?

Samsung mobile products are packed with features designed to help you switch seamlessly between devices and work smarter:

Samsung Flow
Samsung Galaxy laptops, tablets and phones all come with the Samsung Flow app. This lets you easily share files and messages across devices – which means you can say goodbye to the days of having to email yourself something on your phone, just so you can open it up on your laptop.

Plus, messages sent to your phone via the likes of Google Messages or WhatsApp also show up on your other devices – and you can reply to them from whichever one you’re using.

App continuity
With Samsung, continuity is built into apps themselves. So if you want to switch from your phone to a tablet, you can carry on using the app from where you left off, without restarting from the beginning. All you need to do is open the ‘Recent Apps’ tab on the bottom of your tablet.

The same goes for webpages. Simply open ‘Samsung Internet’ on your tablet and the page you’ve been viewing on your phone appears.

Galaxy Buds Auto Switch
If you’ve got a set of Galaxy Buds, you can automatically switch them between your Galaxy phone and Galaxy Book laptop† without having to turn anything off or on*.

* Samsung Galaxy smartphone or tablet with One UI 3.1 or higher required. All devices must be signed into the same Samsung account.

For example, if you were watching a movie on your phone on the train, then want to keep watching it on your laptop when you get home, you can automatically switch over without having to manually change any of your Bluetooth settings. And if someone calls you in the middle of the movie, your Galaxy Buds will automatically switch to your phone so you can chat with them. When you hang up, you’ll be taken straight back to your laptop.

PowerShare
It’s easy to lose track of your battery on different devices. What’s the point of firing up your favourite tunes on your Samsung laptop if your Galaxy Buds are out of power?

PowerShare solves that problem. You’ve probably guessed already – it lets you share power between devices. You don’t even have to be plugged in or connected by wires. If you’re wearing your Galaxy Buds with your tablet on your lap, it’ll automatically share some of its precious power*.

* Wireless PowerShare is supported by all WPC Qi certified smartphones and these Samsung wearable devices - Gear S3/Sport, Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active 2, Galaxy Buds.

Link to Windows
Link to Windows puts all the things you love doing on your phone onto your PC. So you’re just a click away from sending texts, viewing photos and accessing your favourite mobile apps – all without even taking your phone from your pocket.
