A frost-free fridge freezer uses a fan to circulate air and prevent ice build-up, eliminating the need for manual defrosting. A manual defrost model requires you to turn off the appliance and remove built-up ice by hand, typically from the freezer section.

As a general guide:

• 1–2 people: 150–250 litres

• 3–4 people: 250–350 litres

• 5+ people: 350+ litres

Not all models are suitable for unheated spaces. Check the climate class rating—for garage use in the UK, look for models that work efficiently in temperatures as low as -15°C, often labelled “SN-T” or with a “garage ready” tag.

The current energy label (A to G) makes it easier to compare efficiency. An appliance rated A–C is considered highly efficient and can help reduce your electricity bills over time. Look for the annual kWh consumption on the label to estimate running costs.
