Halo Infinite is the next chapter of the legendary Halo series of first person shooters. It’s the sequel to Halo 5: Guardians , which was released way back in 2015.
Microsoft first told us about Halo Infinite during E3 2018 (the industry’s biggest annual gaming event). This year in E3 2019, it dropped this five-minute trailer and ramped up the excitement to fever pitch!
What will the Halo Infinite story be?
Halo Infinite follows on from the story in Halo 5: Guardians, where Cortana attempted to subdue the galaxy using her Guardian war machines. A popular fan theory is that the action will take place on Zeta Halo, one of the remaining Halo rings.
Master Chief will be the star of the game once again. The trailer sees him rescued by a stranded Pelican pilot, who shows him a destroyed Halo ring and says: “we lost”. This could indicate that the game will start in the aftermath of a battle between the UNSC and Cortana and her Guardians.
What will Halo’s gameplay involve?
Halo Infinite is going to give fans exactly what they want. And by that, we mean the fast and furious first-person shooter gameplay that the franchise is famous for – along with a few new ideas and surprises, no doubt.
The big news is that local split-screen multiplayer is definitely making a comeback. This mode was controversially axed from Halo 5: Guardians, but it seems that Microsoft has listened to the fans on this issue. Bonnie Ross, Corporate Vice President at Xbox Game Studios, has said that all Halo games will "always have split-screen going forward."
What about a Fortnite style Battle Royale mode, we hear you ask? Well, we’d love to see this – and there are lots of rumours that it will feature in Halo Infinite – but nothing has been confirmed yet.
When is Halo Infinite coming out?
Halo Infinite is coming out next year, in “Holiday 2020”. We don’t have an exact date, but we do know that it’s planned to be released alongside the new Xbox ‘Scarlett’ console.
Who is making Halo Infinite?
Halo Infinite is being developed by 343 Industries, based in Seattle. This is Microsoft’s leading game development studio, with hundreds of employees who have worked on previous games in the Halo franchise.
Halo Infinite is going to be powered by the all-new Slipcase engine, which 343 Industries is developing alongside the game itself. The details of this new engine are a closely guarded secret, but the trailer above does give us some idea of its power. The graphics, for example, look to be a serious upgrade over previous Halo games.
Which platforms will Halo Infinite be released on?
Halo Infinite will be released on Xbox One, the new Xbox ‘Scarlett’ console, and Windows 10 PCs.
