There are many great things about Xbox One – from impressive next-gen graphics to a dizzying array of games. But one of its most popular features is its ability to play Xbox 360 games too, known as backward compatibility.

And now Microsoft has added even more Xbox 360 games to the list of titles that can be played on the Xbox One – time to dust down those old discs for a retro gaming session.

Which Xbox 360 games will work on Xbox One?

In a word, loads. An original list of over 100 games is being constantly updated with new titles, and there are now around 200 games to choose from.

The updates are announced on the Major Nelson Xbox blog and Twitter feed – and around 20 new games have arrived this summer.

Fallout: New Vegas, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Babel Rising are among the new arrivals. They join other existing games, such as classics Halo: Reach, Mirror’s Edge and Lego Star Wars.

Retro Xbox Arcade games are also available, including Crystal Quest, Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara and Super Meat Boy. Enjoy them without having to dig out endless 20ps.

So I can use my Xbox 360 discs in my Xbox One?

Yes – and it’s free for the Xbox 360 games you already own. Simply dig out your disc, put it into your Xbox One and then download it to your console’s hard drive.

The games, part of the Back Compact game catalogue, can be seen in the Ready to Install section on your console.

Top tip: Once the game has downloaded, you’ll need to keep the disc in the Xbox One while playing.

Can I pick up where I left off in 2010?

Yes. You can dive into old games that you saved in your Xbox Live cloud back in the day – game saves, add-ons and achievements will be remembered.

What if I don’t have the original discs?

You can still play all these amazing old games – you simply pay to download digital versions at Xbox Live. The game will appear in your list of available downloads.

Is now the time to buy an Xbox One?

The Xbox 360 said goodbye earlier this year – being discontinued by Microsoft after 10 years of service.

TechTalk reported the news in April that Microsoft was ending production of the Xbox 360.

This makes now a great time to upgrade to the Xbox One. It offers a serious performance upgrade on Xbox 360, with enhanced graphics and a faster processor.

The games are out of this world. Next-gen remakes of classic titles like Grand Theft Auto V have been applauded. Completely new titles designed for Xbox One such as Titanfall and Quantum Break are simply stunning.

But Xbox One is also the ‘best place to play Xbox 360 games’, according to Microsoft. You can ‘experience both generations of games on one console’, it says.

And with more than 200 backward compatible games, as well as a dazzling array of dedicated Xbox One games – what is there to lose? It’s much cheaper than it was at launch too.
