School’s out for Easter. And sure, you can keep the kids entertained outside. But if the weather’s not great (and this weekend’s forecast isn’t looking too promising…) then you might need to stay indoors. Don’t let the clouds get you down though — let the fun begin!

Make eggs-cellent Easter bakes

Spend some time baking in the kitchen with your children, and you’ll be making great memories alongside your unbelievably delicious cakes. A hand mixer or food mixer will help with the beating that’s needed in most recipes, but be sure to keep little fingers far away from any fast-moving or whirring gadgets.

The folks over at BBC GoodFood have loads of fun Easter baking ideas for kids. Or if you’ve got more Easter eggs than you know what to do with (plus an air fryer), check out our leftover Easter egg recipes for air fryers. Easter egg brownies? Chocolate-stuffed croissants? Yes please!

Give them a gaming console they’ll love

If you really want to treat your child this Easter, the Nintendo Switch — or more pocket-friendly Nintendo Switch Lite — are superb gaming consoles made for kids. And there are loads of amazing Nintendo Switch games to choose from too (but you can’t go wrong with Pokémon or Super Mario).

Plus, Nintendo Switch Parental Controls make it easy to keep your kids safe. Download the the free app on your smartphone and you can easily check what (and how) they’re playing. If you want to make sure they aren’t seeing anything too mature for them, you can restrict their access to certain games based on their age.

Have some Easter fun online

There are loads of great family tablets out there. Good for play, even better for schoolwork! So, once the kids have done their homework — you can let them have some fun with Easter-themed online activities. Here are a few of our favourites to kick off the action:

  • Virtual Easter egg decorating: If you’re an iPad owner, go for the Easter Egg Painter app. Or if you’ve got an Android tablet, get the Easter Egg Maker app. Both let your kid unleash their decorating and colouring creativity. And if they come up with a design you really like, you can try and create the real thing!

  • Virtual Easter egg hunt: We love this idea. It’s the Cadbury Worldwide Hide — a virtual Easter egg hunt that lets you hide an egg anywhere in the world using Google Maps. You can then share a clue with your family to help them find it, and even buy them an actual chocolate egg to receive when they locate it online.

Oh, and you’ve always got the messier option of real-life egg decorating of course!

Online books for kids

Kids love tech, and eReaders provide a really fun and interactive reading experience. Not to mention access to a huge library of books that they can take with them anywhere!

Lots of eReaders also have built-in dictionaries, which make it really easy for your child to look up unfamiliar words and learn what they mean. And some even have features like highlighting and note-taking too — perfect for tackling those Easter homework tasks.

Start telling stories

If your kid’s a real bookworm and wants to give writing a go — Fabled is the perfect place for them to create and share their stories. Think of it as a smart online notebook, that chats back and even gives inspiration for story ideas. Then when your child has finished their terrific tale — you can share it for family and friends to enjoy.

If you want to get competitive, check out children’s writing competitions on The School Reading List website. With over 50 upcoming comps to choose from, you’re sure to find something that capture’s your young one’s imagination!

Ask or play away with a smart speaker

Made with little ones in mind, smart speakers like the Amazon Echo Dot Kids let your child ask Alexa voice assistant questions like "Alexa, what noise does an elephant make?" or "Alexa, how far away is the sun?". It's a super handy tool for when they get stuck on a homework question or are just feeling curious.

It's also perfect for streaming music, listening to a bedtime story, or playing interactive games. And they can even help your child develop healthy routines as they grow, with Alexa letting them set their own alarms and call (parent-approved) friends and family.

Do the robot

Last but not least. Why not let them play with something that’s more than just a game? We’ve got cool kids robot toys that can do amazing things — from drawing to educating your child with over 180 quizzes! So, there’s sure to be one your pride and joy will love.
