Since Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPhone back in 2007, Apple have held their spot as the masters of the big reveal – despite increasingly fierce competition.

And eleven plus iPhones later there’s plenty of excitement this time round – with talk of a new square-edged design and superfast 5G. But can the iPhone 12 live up to the hype? We share all the news from Apple HQ!

Pick your perfect screen size

We're not talking the announcement of one new iPhone. We're talking about four!

The new iPhone will come in all new sizes – so you’ll find the perfect phone for your pocket. The smallest is the iPhone 12 Mini at 5.4 inches – which should be a fave for fans of the smaller iPhones. The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro (both 6.1 inches) and the giant 12 Pro Max – coming in at a huge 6.7 inches.

All screens come with something called Ceramic Shield. Apple say that it's the toughest smartphone glass around. That's a big relief when you're nervous about dropping your brand new iPhone 12. Butter fingers!

Apple goes 5G!

Apple have joined the race to make the most of all that superfast 5G has to offer. During the show, they focused on just how much 5G capability will improve downloads, streaming and gaming. It also have the advantage of getting amazing speeds on the go without the security risk of public WiFi. Plus, you get 5G no matter what model you pick!

Great new cameras

First seen on the iPad Pro 2020, LiDAR is coming to the iPhone 12. It means you can try all kinds of impressive photo trickery – for example autofocus in lowlight up to 6x faster. It also unlocks a low-light portrait mode. Perfect for those late nights!

As for cameras, the Mini and iPhone 12 have a dual camera set up. The Max goes with three cameras (12MP Wide, Ultrawide and Telephoto). The Pro Max beefs this up further with a 5x optical zoom. We saw some of the images and videos taken on the new phones – and they look incredibly professional. Expect Insta likes to come pouring in!

Brand new colours!

A new smart looking dark blue design looks great! You can also pick up the iPhone 12 in black, white, red and green. If you go Pro or Pro Max, Apple offer graphite, white, gold and Pacific Blue. Shiny!

Amazing gaming

During launch, a big deal was made of iPhone's "console quality gaming." Mobile games should look great on the Super XDR display. If you're a League of Legends fan, the iPhone 12 looks to be the perfect phone to play it on. Combined with its powerful A14 chip and 5G capabilities, the new iPhones are ready for action!

New iPhone on new iOS

The iPhone 12s will be running Apple’s latest software – iOS 14. That will introduce a bunch of new features like widgets, apps and picture-in-picture. This means your new iPhone will have some great new tricks up its sleeve.

Accessories news

With so many charging cables and headphones from previous models still around, don’t expect the iPhone 12 to come with earbuds or a power adapter. Apple say that this will help us to be greener. But you will get a USC-C cable in the box – handy for connecting it up to a wider range of laptops and other devices.

Speaking of charging, Apple announced that the iPhone 12 has a magnetic back. This will introduce Magsafe for iPhone – a charger that magnetically attach top the back of the phone. We've only previously seen on Macs so it's great to get it on iPhones.

When will the iPhone 12 be released?

Apple announced that the iPhone 12 Mini and Pro Max will be ready for pre-order on Nov. 6th and you’ll be able to get your hands on one on Nov. 13th. After an iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro? Pre-orders on Oct. 16th and then get it a week later on Oct. 23rd.

Get yours!
