The Huawei Mate 40 Pro is… well… your new best mate. The entire Huawei Mate 40 range was announced at the end of October, although we have to wait for the other models in the range. But the Pro is available from the 13th November and there’s plenty to get excited about.

Of course, there are the great features we’d expect from a premium smartphone. Things like a beautiful design, a dazzling display and automatic fingerprint and face unlock. But this phone has a lot more than that.

It’s brilliant for creators and selfie snappers. A cutting-edge phone camera makes it easy to take slick looking videos and pics. Plus, it has an amazingly powerful 5G ready chip, making the phone and your downloads super-fast. That speed translates to its charging as well. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro has wireless supercharge so you’re ready to go at a moment’s notice.

Let’s take a deeper dive into each of those features, shall we?

Lights, camera, ACTION!

Not only do you get three camera lenses, but they look super stylish too. The space ring camera set up features a 50MP Ultra Vision lens, 20MP Cine camera and 12MP Telephoto with 5x optical zoom. This gives you a huge range of options – including the ability to get right up close to your subject at a distance. It even uncovers the finer details when up close!

There’s also a laser sensor on board, which makes focusing incredibly fast and accurate. You’ll never miss a moment again. And if you’re a bit of a night owl, there’s a special ‘night mode’ for taking great shots in low light. Just point, shoot, and be a little patient – it takes about 6 seconds to take a perfect shot.

Getting the perfect video’s a breeze too. You’ll be shooting in 4K Ultra HD quality and the XD Fusion HDR Video mode optimises colour, contrast and brightness as you film. So you’re guaranteed a professional looking video even in low light.

Trying to get the perfect action shot? No problem. In-built AI object tracking follows your subject around while they’re moving, keeping them at the centre of the action. And Steady Shot is the best ever stabilisation tech on a Huawei phone. Say goodbye to shaky filming!

And at the front you’ve got the Ultra Vision Selfie Camera. It’s a wide-angled 13MP camera that adapts depending on where you’re getting a solo selfie or a group shot. You can even film using the front and back camera at the same time using Dual View!

Superpowered and super speedy

The Mate 40 Pro has the world’s most powerful 5G chipset under the hood. It can multi-task, process huge amounts of data and tackle AI computing without a hitch. Everything is speedy and responsive, no matter how many things you want to multitask with on the day.

On-the-go gaming? The Mate 40 Pro’s GPU has got you covered. Plus, there’s the advanced NPU which makes this a seriously smart phone. It powers the Mate 40 Pro’s AI touch-free gestures. Whether that’s a grabbing motion to take a quick screenshot, a hover your hand close to the screen to take a call or even just looking at your phone while it’s ringing to automatically lower the volume. Clever stuff!

And if you’re lucky enough to be on a 5G network, you’ll be blown away by the speed everything gets done. Fancy downloading an entire movie to watch on your commute? Not a problem. But if you’re in a 5G blind spot there’s no need to worry. The Mate 40 Pro has a dual sim so it can switch between 4G and 5G to keep your connection steady, stable and fast.

Chaaaarge!

The Mate 40 Pro goes on and on- that’s thanks to its large capacity 4400 mAh battery! So it won’t let you down if you need to go without charging for a long stretch.

Plus, when do add some juice, you can use one of the fastest wireless and wired superchargers yet. The phone will come with a 66W charger, which is way ahead of what other premium smartphones offer. It’ll help you get back up and running without hanging around too long. We’ve tried it for ourselves and were able to get the phone fully powered up in just over 45 minutes.

The Mate 40 Pro is a great all-rounder. In fact, we couldn’t fault it all. If you want to make it your next upgrade, you can buy the Huawei Mate 40 Pro 5G from Currys soon or Carphone Warehouse right now.
