Best Android phone

Redesigned with damage-resistant front and back glass inside a durable frame, the Google Pixel 9 is built to last. It’s incredibly smart too. You can ask it for a helping hand whenever you need it with the built-in Gemini AI assistant. Whether you're writing a message, planning an event, or just curious about something new, just press and hold the power button and Gemini will jump in to help out. There’s a whole range of cool AI photo editing features too, for out of this world shots you’ll love sharing.

With a stunning 6.3-inch pOLED display, everything you watch will look sharp, vibrant, and bright. The camera is simply one of the best around, with a 50MP and 48MP main camera setup that’s perfect for capturing landscapes and group photos, plus a 10.5MP selfie cam for your best angles.

The Pixel 9’s camera is loaded with fun features, like the ‘Add Me’ mode that lets you take a group photo and then sneak yourself into it. The Pixel magically blends everything together, so it looks like you were always in the shot. And with ‘Magic Editor Reframe’, your photos will always be perfectly cropped and framed. It can even expand your images to include more of the scene. Feeling creative? The ‘Magic Editor Reimagine’ feature lets you completely transform your photos. Want to turn a grassy field into a beach or make the sky pink? Just type in your vision, and watch the magic happen!

Under the hood, the Pixel 9 is powered by the new Tensor G4 chip, which gives the phone all the power it needs to run its advanced AI features.

Best camera phone

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S24 family, smartphones are now even more epic. And it’s all down to some incredibly advanced AI.

Galaxy AI
The Galaxy S24 is packed with powerful AI tech to level up your mobile life. From holiday spots to hair styles, Circle to Search with Google* lets you find out about anything on your phone screen. There’s no typing required - just circle the object you get instant search results without switching apps.

Find yourself abroad and need to make a local call? Live Translate removes the language barrier, so both people on the call can speak and hear in their own language.

If you’re short on time but want to stay on top of the news, Note Assist* summarises any written content into easy-to-skim bullet points. And you can hand over note taking to Transcript Assist – it writes up conversations, including who said what, leaving you free to listen and contribute in meetings. When you’re looking for a better way to say it, Chat Assist provides suggestions in just the right tone, whether you’re messaging a mate or writing a post on social media.

AI powered camera smarts
For pictures that really pop, even after dark, enhanced AI Nightography captures every shade and texture.

Can’t get as close to the festival stage as you’d like? No problem - the impressive 10MP Telephoto lens brings the action closer with 3x optical zoom and a super-accurate, AI-powered 30x space zoom. Oh, and those holiday landscapes will look as incredible as they do in real life with the 12MP Ultra Wide lens.

Selfies with the 12MP front camera put you in your best light, accurately capturing even the subtlest tones. And photos look even more impressive with Photo Assist’s Edit Suggestion^ feature, which makes recommendations and automatic edits like erasing objects and removing reflections. You can even reposition and re-size objects to get that perfect composition using the Generative Edit feature^^.

*Requires network connection. Results may vary depending on visual matches.

**Available in 13 languages from launch.
^ Edit Suggestion is compatible with JPG, PNG, GIF and MP4 formats. Accuracy of results is not guaranteed.
^^ Generative Edit requires a network connection and Samsung Account login.

Best mid-range phone

Looking for a great phone but don’t want to pay premium prices? Then Google’s new entry-level Pixel 8a could be the one for you. This affordable phone has the exact same chip that powers the Pixel 8 Pro, bringing a whole load of AI features to make your life easier.

With its 64 MP camera, you’re already set to capture stunning photos, but the Magic Editor takes things to the next level. You can now effortlessly move objects, change backgrounds, and erase unwanted photobombers like… magic!

If someone blinks just as you snap the picture (it happens to all of us), don’t worry. The Best Take feature combines several similar photos into one perfect shot, ensuring everyone looks their best. The Photo Unblur tool sharpens those blurry pics, even if they weren’t taken on a Pixel phone, letting you refresh your old photo memories. Plus, Night Sight helps you take perfect pics late into the evening. It produces clear and vibrant photos even in low light, including bright starry skies with Astrophotography.

The Pixel 8a comes loaded with lots of other smart features. Circle to Search allows you to quickly find what you’re looking for by simply drawing a circle around an image, video, or text, and Google AI does the rest. Then there's Live Translate, which lets you use the camera to instantly translate signs, menus, and messages.

When it comes to entertainment, the Pixel 8a makes all your favourite movies, shows, and games look incredible with its detailed 6.1” touchscreen. And with a 120Hz refresh rate, it'll keep everything running smooth. The adaptive battery lasts for more than 24 hours, so you’ll spend less time charging and more time playing. And finally, security updates run for at least five years, keeping you safe and secure all the way to 2029.

Best foldable phone

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 phones are both incredible foldable phones. Here’s a little more detail on what makes each one so special.

Galaxy Z Fold6

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 puts a ton of power in your pocket. The large foldout display and smart Galaxy AI make it great for multitasking, so you can get more done faster. Instantly learn more about anything on your screen by circling it, let the phone take meeting notes for you, and translate foreign languages in real time – which is perfect for holidays abroad.

The massive 7.6” main display makes movies pop, especially with the Adaptive Vision Booster keeping everything clear and vivid even on sunny days. Plus, the 4400mAh battery means the fun can last for hours.

The AI-powered camera system takes amazing pics and videos, no matter where you are. The ProVisual Engine enhances details even in low light, and if you’re far away from the action, AI Zoom captures everything with amazing clarity. Then when it’s time to review your shots, you can use Photo Assist and the foldable phone display to make pro quality edits – such as removing shadows and resizing objects with a few taps.

Galaxy Z Flip6

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is a compact phone packing big, cutting-edge features. Leveraging the power of Galaxy AI, this handset makes your everyday easier — from writing time-saving quick replies, to translating foreign languages in real-time so you're never stuck for what to say on your travels. It even enhances your photos and videos for stunning content that's ready to share in seconds

When it's time to check that message notification, you won't even have to even flip it open to respond thanks to the Flex Window. Just rely on the Quick Reply Suggestion feature, which analyses your recent messages and generates responses without you having to type a single word.

Open up the Galaxy Flip6 to a large, bright display that looks amazing even in direct sunlight. Watch shows and play games with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, and the 4,000mAh battery gives you all-day use without worrying about recharging.

The 50MP main camera captures vibrant, lifelike photos and videos, even in low light with Super Night Video. Meanwhile, the AI-powered FlexZoom feature takes hands-free photography to the next level by automatically zooming in and out for the best shots. And the Pro Visual Engine perfects details like skin and eyelashes for flawless portraits and selfies.

Mobile phone FAQs

What is the best mobile phone for me? SIM free or pay monthly?

Want to own your phone from the get-go? Then buy a SIM free phone. SIM free phones are popular because they give you complete freedom. You're not tied to any network, and you're free to choose the SIM only deal that suits you best. It’s sold without a SIM card, call plan, or data plan, so you’re only paying for the phone itself. At Currys, you can choose to pay upfront or spread the cost. You can then slot in your current SIM, or buy a separate SIM only deal with the minutes, texts and data you need.

If you want to buy a phone and SIM plan together, go for a pay monthly mobile phone deal. You sign up to a monthly contract that covers the cost of your phone - as well as your minutes, texts, and data. You pay a set amount by Direct Debit each month, and the contract usually lasts between one and three years.

Should I buy an iPhone or Android phone?

iPhones and Android phones have different operating systems with different features and benefits, so have a think about which one you’d prefer to use.

Android is an easy-to-use operating system designed by Google. It gives you access to all of Google’s services and over 3 million apps in the Google Play store. It’s also very customisable, so you can change colours, themes, wallpapers and lots more.

Apple's iOS has built up a solid reputation for being simple, intuitive, attractive, and secure. It’s been designed to help you do everything quickly and easily. You’ll only find it on Apple devices, and it gives you access to loads of fantastic Apple programs like iCloud, Facetime and iMessage, plus around 2 million apps from the App Store.

Should I buy an unlocked phone?

An unlocked phone isn't tied to a specific mobile network, so you can use SIM cards from different networks on it. This can be useful if you think you’ll want to switch carriers without changing your phone, or if you frequently travel internationally and need to use local SIM cards. All of our SIM free phones come unlocked, so you can choose any network you want.

How much phone storage do I need?

The amount of mobile phone storage you need depends on your usage habits. If you take a lot of photos and videos, play games, and download apps, you might want at least 64GB or more. However, if you mostly use your phone for calls, messaging, and light browsing, 32GB could suffice.

Anything above 64GB gives you a serious amount of storage space and means you won’t have to worry about deleting old apps to make room for new ones.

For example, 50GB can hold: over 800 hours of digital music / 16,000 digital photos / 50 hours of digital video / a dozen or so DVD-quality movies.

Should I switch from a 4G phone to a 5G phone?

5G is the 5th generation of mobile broadband. The difference between 5G and 4G is huge – in fact, it’s up to 100 times faster!

There are lots of good reasons to go for a 5G phone. With 5G, your favourite movies can be streamed straight to your phone in seconds, even if it’s in HD 8K quality. You can also get online more easily in busy, high-traffic areas. That’s because 5G uses much higher frequencies compared to other networks, so the signal is less likely to be interfered with.

If you’re a dedicated vlogger, budding Tik-Toker or future YouTube star, you’ll probably have spent countless hours waiting on your longer pieces of content to be uploaded and shared to the outside world. With 5G you’ll be able to upload things in seconds, so no more hanging around to start racking up all those likes!
