Chromebooks are a new way to laptop. Stripped back, easy to use, and built around going online.

They use the Chrome operating system, so everything is based on apps and web services – there’s no need to download any software or programs to get things done. And they’re the only laptops with access to the Google Play store - so you’ve got access to millions of Android apps.

There are three types of Chromebook to choose from: Chromebooks, Plus Chromebooks and Premium Chromebooks. Which one will you go for? Well, it all depends on the kinds of thing you like doing…

For everyday browsing and messaging… all Chromebooks!

If you use a laptop for tasks like checking emails and browsing the web, a Chromebook will do you fine. The display will be at least HD quality, and it can handle apps from the Google Play store like Facebook, Gmail, YouTube and Twitter.

The only complicated thing about this laptop is its long name. Apart from that, it’s perfect for everyday tasks, with a large 11.6-inch anti-glare HD screen and over 15 hours of battery life from a single charge. It’s also super-lightweight and mobile, so you can easily slip it into your bag and use it on-the-go.

For serious work and play… Plus Chromebooks

If you’ve got more serious work and play to do, think about going for a Plus Chromebook. These are especially great for students, with powerful processors giving performance a real boost. That means faster web browsing, clear video calls, and seamless streaming when you want to catch up on your fave TV show. Plus Chromebooks also have plenty of storage (it’ll be at least 64GB) if you want to store movies and watch them offline, and enjoy apps from the Google Play store or on the web, like the Microsoft 365 family (Word, Excel,PowerPoint) and streaming services like Netflix and Spotify.

Its Intel Core processors will help you multitask if you want to have more than one app open at the same time – so you can catch up on emails while you listen to your favourite Spotify playlist.

The 2-in-1 design gives you loads of options, depending on what you’re using it for. Put it in tablet mode to swipe through your social feeds, flip it over to laptop mode and use the keyboard to write emails and work on projects, or use stand mode to sit back, relax, and watch a blockbuster movie.

For creators and makers… Premium Chromebooks

If you want to get creative and need a laptop that’ll keep up with you, go for a Premium Chromebook. The processors are the most advanced you’ll see on a Chromebook, so you can power through mega workloads and complex tasks like graphic design and video editing. And if you like playing games with lots of speedy onscreen action, you’ll be able to do that too – without a hint of lag. Plus, you can enjoy apps like Adobe Lightroom and Snapseed photo editor, along with fast and furious games like Asphalt 9.

Interested? Go for something like the… Acer Spin 713 13.5" 2 in 1 Chromebook.

It has a superfast 11th gen Intel® Core™ i3 processor and 8 GB of RAM, so you can power through any task without annoying lag or freezing. Yep, even when you’ve got loads of apps and browsers open at once. The 13.5-inch Quad HD display makes everything look epic, and the 3:2 aspect ratio gives you more vertical space to work with. That means you can see more onscreen when you’re working with spreadsheets and large essays. Nice!
