Microsoft’s new Ai companion is called Copilot in Windows (in preview)*, and it can do amazing things. Think of Copilot as having an AI wingman to help you navigate any task. It’s on Windows 11 right now, and there’s also plenty of Copilot+ PCs you can get your hands on too. So, let’s see what all the fuss is about.
What is Microsoft Copilot in Windows?
Copilot is an Ai-powered assistant that’s always there with fast answers and help with all your tasks. It’s been designed to make your problem solving and creative thinking more efficient.
Ask questions and make requests using your natural language, and Copilot is clever enough to instantly understand and give you what’s needed.
Here are some examples of how handy Copilot can be:
Create anything you can picture in your imagination. Let’s say you’re creating a home-made Christmas card for someone. You can use Copilot for some expert artistic assistance. Type in something like: “Create an image of a reindeer skiing, wearing a winter hat, on a snowy day.” and Copilot will generate that exact image for you. And if you then ask: “Can you make that image in the style of an oil painting?” Copilot can even do that for you. Very cool.
Find out more about photos. If you spot a picture you don’t recognise, you can use Copilot to learn more about it. Simply copy, upload or drag it into Copilot, type something like ‘tell me more about this picture’ and it’ll give you more information.
Improve your research. Copilot accelerates the learning you might want to do before starting an essay or project. It can understand your complex questions, and provide answers based on reliable sources. It can also summarise longer articles into more digestible passages, so you can get the gist faster.
Make text more understandable. We’ve all had those long emails that we can’t make head or tail of. Just ask Copilot to summarise it or break it down into easily understandable parts, and all will become clear.
Add information to lists. Let’s say you’re on a city break and a friend has given you a few restaurant recommendations. Copilot can quickly add the distance from your hotel for each one, saving you lots of time and hassle.
Finds your playlist in a flash. Just ask Copilot to “Play a ‘chillout/death metal/whatever’ playlist.” It’ll instantly open your favourite music streaming app and start playing the tunes you’ve asked for.
Design documents. Copilot takes all the effort out of putting pro quality presentations together. Just give it some pointers and it’ll search your desktop for Adobe and other useful apps to create something that would have taken you hours of blood, sweat and tears to do in the past.
Get info from your phone. If you’ve received a text containing valuable information such as flight details and booking references, Copilot can find it for you and display it on your desktop. It’ll then offer more help, such as suggesting the best travel methods from your home to the airport.
