The Batman: Arkham Trilogy contains three of the best superhero games ever made. As the main man himself, you’ll dish out justice from the rooftops to the back alleys – brawling with the bad guys to put a stop to their dastardly plots.
To get you ready to hit the streets of Gotham (literally, you’ll be punching a whole lot of thugs), we’ve put together a small guide containing everything you need to know. From the release date and pre-order info to the villains you’ll be battling and the gadgets you’ll be using. Is that the Bat Signal? To the Batmobile!
What is Batman: Arkham Trilogy’s release date?
Luckily, you don’t have to be the world’s greatest detective to work this one out. Batman: Arkham Trilogy swoops its way onto Nintendo Switch on December 1, 2023. Let’s just hope Calendar Man (yep, he’s a genuine Batman villain - we know, we know.) hasn’t got anything planned for the big day…
How much will Batman: Arkham Trilogy cost?
Bruce Wayne’s got expensive tastes. But luckily for us, you don’t need to be a millionaire playboy to get your hands on the game. Or should we say games. For just £49.99, you’ll get every title from the iconic trilogy, plus all the extra DLC on top too. So, get those controller bat-teries charged…
Batman: Arkham Asylum – Batman’s captured The Joker. And with the Crown Prince of Crime finally under lock and key, the city’s finally safe from his rampages. Or not. Turns out, he’s set a trap for the Caped Crusader – and Batman has walked right into it. Now you’re locked in the Asylum with Gotham’s deadliest criminals. Can you fight your way out and stop The Joker’s evil plan?
Batman: Arkham City – A section of Gotham has been transformed into a walled-off, open-air prison where criminals run rampant (it definitely wouldn’t get a good score on Trip Advisor, that’s for sure). Batman is forced to enter the jail and track down The Joker, who’s up to his old tricks and is spreading a deadly disease. It’s no joke(r)…
Batman Arkham Knight – The mysterious Arkham Knight has launched an attack on Gotham, while other supervillains take advantage of the chaos. But who actually is the Arkham Knight? And can Batman unmask their true identity before it’s too late? The answer’s going to hit a little close to home.
Can I pre-order Batman: Batman Arkham Trilogy?
Absolutely. Pre-orders are live right now, so if you grab yourself a copy, it’ll Batwing its way to your front door in time for release day. Or, if you want to get the digital version, top up your Nintendo account with an eShop gift card and get the game straight from the Nintendo Store instead. Super.
Batman: Arkham Trilogy platforms and crossplay
Batman: Arkham Trilogy will be launching for the first time on Nintendo Switch. The collection has already been out for a while on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S and the Batcomputer (oh sorry, we mean PC). So, every kind of Bat fan can get their hands on the game.
Because this is a single-player only title, there’s no form of crossplay here. Your sidekick will have to stay in the Batcave for this one!
How to play Batman: Arkham Trilogy
There are three main parts to Batman’s gameplay. Fighting. Sneaking. And solving crimes. You’ll be doing all three pretty much straight off the bat…
You’ll face off in hand-to-hand combat against groups of goons, using martial arts moves and gadgets - like Batarangs and the grapple gun - to knock the baddies into next week. They really won’t know what hit them. But sometimes, you’ll have to strike from the shadows instead. Crawl through vents. Glide onto gargoyles. Or creep round corners to level the playing field. Because while that suit might look the part, it isn’t going to stop a bullet.
Batman isn’t as blind as a bat either. Using Detective Mode, you’ll scour crime scenes. Piecing together important clues to build up a picture of what happened. Once you’ve found all the key evidence, you’ll need to track down the villains to bring them to justice.
How many hours of gameplay will Batman: Arkham Trilogy have?
With three games to glide, sneak, whack, and solve your way through, you’ll be spending plenty of time in the Dark Knight’s boots…
Arkham Asylum – 11 hours for the main story, 25 hours if you want to see and do everything.
Arkham City – 13 hours to beat the campaign. Then 57 hours to hit that 100% game completion stat.
Arkham Knight – 16 hours to get through all the main missions. With up to 50 hours if you plan to uncover every single secret.
Holy gameplay hours, Batman! You really weren’t kidding.
Who are the main heroes and villains?
As Batman, you’ll be going up against the most iconic villains from the DC universe. Here’s just a few of the big bads that you’ll pit your wits against, plus a little bit on our hero himself:
Batman – By day, he’s Bruce Wayne – the billionaire owner of Wayne Enterprises. But by night (or should we say, Knight), he’s Batman, a vigilante driven by the traumatic murder of his parents. Dedicating his life to fighting crime, he has no superpowers. Instead relying on martial arts skills, his intellect, and a range of high-tech gadgets to combat the criminal threat and clean up the streets.
The Joker – Batman’s oldest adversary. With green hair, pale white skin and a manic grin, The Joker is a clown you definitely wouldn’t invite to little Timmy’s birthday party. His sadistic personality and complete disregard for human life makes him a seriously deadly opponent. If you hear that crazy laugh, you’re probably in for a surprise.
Riddler – Edward Nygma (enigma – get it?) is completely obsessed with puzzles and elaborate riddles. And he uses them to commit crimes and taunt Batman, determined to outsmart the world’s greatest detective and prove his superior intelligence once and for all. With a green question mark as his calling card, what’s he plotting this time?
Two-Face – Harvey Dent – the District Attorney of Gotham City – was one of Batman’s greatest allies in the fight against corruption. But when mob boss Sal Maroni threw acid in his face during a trial, half of Dent’s face was left horribly disfigured. This gave him a split personality, with one side representing justice and the other chaos. And with his crimes decided on the flip of a coin, he’s one of Batman’s most unpredictable enemies. So, heads or tails?
Scarecrow – Also known as Dr. Jonathan Crane, this former psychologist turned criminal uses fear to spread terror throughout Gotham. Using his own special toxin, he manipulates and destroys his victims by playing on their biggest fears. And we haven’t even mentioned the creepy scarecrow costume and mask yet. You really wouldn’t want this guy turning up for trick or treating.
Killer Croc – He’s a killer. And he’s a massive crocodile. Ok, maybe that’s a bit too simple. Waylon Jones suffers from a super rare medical condition that transforms him into a huge scaly reptile. Complete with the razor-sharp teeth and a hunger for human flesh. His superhuman strength and sheer brute force make him one of the most dangerous villains in Batman’s rogues’ gallery.
What are the different Batman: Arkham Trilogy game mode options?
In each game, you’ll have a single-player story mode to play through. While Arkham Asylum is a little bit more linear, Arkham City and Arkham Knight are full open worlds. Packed with gangs to fight, secrets to discover and crimes to stop, you’ll literally become the Dark Knight as he protects the city of Gotham.
Then there’s the challenge maps. These are one-off rooms where you’ll compete against your mates to get the high score and secure that top spot on the leader board. You’ll fight waves of henchmen, defeating them as quickly as you can – with extra points for style and mixing up your combos. Or, if you prefer a sneakier approach, there’s stealth scenarios where you need to pick off the goons one by one without being spotted.
Will Batman: Arkham Trilogy have a multiplayer mode?
We know Batman likes to team up with Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman and other vigilantes now and again. But this a single player trilogy through and through. One where you’ll have to use all the tools in Batman’s utility belt – plus his elite crime fighting mind - to put the supervillains behind bars.
What Batman: Arkham Trilogy features are player customisable?
You’ll be able to pick from a wardrobe’s worth of special suits to customise Batman. Love Christian Bale’s look from Nolan’s legendary film trilogy? That’s here. Or maybe you’re a massive comic book fan? Go for the cowl and cape from Frank Miller’s ‘Year One’ and suit up as the Bat at the very start of his crime fighting career.
You can even give the Batmobile a fresh lick of paint too if that classic black finish isn’t doing it for you. Just don’t expect to be doing any interior design work in the Batcave. Alfred’s got that covered after all.
