WarioWare is Nintendo’s zaniest video game series. And that’s really saying something when you look at their back catalogue. WarioWare: Move It! is the upcoming game in the wacky franchise — packed with over 200 minigames (or “microgames” as they say) that’ll get your heart pumping. Mario’s arch-rival might be out of shape, but he can sure write a good workout plan!
From just the trailer alone, it looks like it’ll be sheer and utter mayhem. So be-ware if you’re not cut out for quirky, fast-paced gameplay. But loyal WarioWare fans are going to love all the weirdness — and we reckon there’s plenty of you out there.
So, here’s everything you need to know about the new party game. From the release date and price to those famously frantic minigames.
What is WarioWare: Move It’s release date?
WarioWare: Move It! dances its way onto Nintendo Switch on November 3rd, 2023. You better start working on your cardio, as it won’t be long at all! The game is a direct sequel to 2006’s WarioWare: Smooth Moves, so it’s been a while since Wario busted out some grooves.
How much will WarioWare: Move It! cost?
The latest WarioWare title won’t have you worried when it comes to wonga. More than 200 mind-bending minigames will be all yours for just £39.99. Not too shabby.
Can I pre-order WarioWare: Move It?
You sure can! Pre-order WarioWare: Move It! right now to be one of the first to complete the cartoonishly-fun caper. Physical copy and digital pre-orders are also available through Nintendo’s official store.
WarioWare: Move It! platforms and crossplay
You’ll only be able to play WarioWare: Move It! on Nintendo Switch. Playstation, Xbox and PC gamers will have to get their kicks elsewhere.
How to play WarioWare: Move It!
Make sure you fasten up those wrist straps. WarioWare: Move It! will get you doing all kinds of absurd motions to complete more than 200 madly fun minigames. Just use your Switch’s Joy-Con controllers to shake, punch, dance, wiggle, and even curtsey — with each gut-busting game lasting just a few seconds. You better be on the ball though, as those onscreen commands will come thick and fast!
How many hours of gameplay will WarioWare: Move It! have?
Don’t Wario-bout it, there’ll be plenty. The minigames will only last about five seconds each, but it’ll still take you a decent amount of time to get through them all. If we’re going by the prequel (WarioWare: Smooth Moves), these minigames will be split into stages that are loosely connected by a story too.
Who are WarioWare: Move It’s main characters?
Your favourite grumpy anti-hero takes centre stage in Move It! But from the looks of it, there’s also a big cast of quirky side-characters as well. And you’ll even be able to play as some of them in ‘party mode’ — but more on that later.
It also looks like some familiar faces from the Mario world will show up in those blink-or-you’ll-miss-it minigames — including the Italian plumber himself. We saw some cute Pikmin pals too!
What WarioWare: Move It! features are player-customisable?
WarioWare: Move It! is all about solving puzzles and completing those manic minigames back-to-back. So, there’s probably not going to be much in the way of customisation.
What are the different WarioWare: Move It! game mode options?
Like we said, WarioWare: Move It! will have some kind of story mode to string all those flashy minigames together. Smooth Moves had you work your way through perilous ruins, but the sequel looks like it’ll turn up the heat with a tropical theme.
‘Party mode’ will be familiar to players of Mario Party. This multiplayer mode is set up like a board game with Wario-style rules, where each player will complete those “dicey” minigames to make their way around. Some kind of ‘survival mode’ has also been rumoured, following a “last man standing” style format that’s sure to make your blood boil.
Will WarioWare: Move It! have a multiplayer mode?
From what we’ve seen so far, Move It! is all about multiplayer. A co-op pal or competitor can use another set of Joy-Con controllers to join the “treasure-guarding, sheep-twirling fun”. And up to four players, each with one Joy-Con controller, can laugh out loud as they play the party mode’s nutty minigames.
Previous WarioWare releases in chronological order
Casual Nintendo fans might not know that much about the WarioWare franchise, but the 11-game series has a big cult following. And believe it or not, the first WarioWare game came out 20 years ago. Here are some of the biggest releases in the title’s history:
WarioWare, Inc: Minigame Mania (2003)
The first game in the flamboyant franchise was available for the handheld Game Boy Advance console — remember that? And predictably, it was a real button-basher! As you completed those rapidly-fast minigames, the game would speed up to really keep you on your toes. If you got through enough in a row, you’d then face a big bad boss. Gulp.
WarioWare: Smooth Moves (2006)
This was a real favourite with Wii fans. Smooth Moves is the prequel to Move It! and it really made full use of that motion-sensing wireless remote — or the ancient ‘Form Baton’ as it was called in the game. Wielded by Wario himself, players would use the remote and its ‘Nunchuk’ attachment to battle through various minigames.
WarioWare: Get It Together! (2021)
Even more minigame madness. Get It Together! for Nintendo Switch continued the tradition, with Wario and his companions sucked inside his latest gaming console and made to complete those treacherous mini-tasks themselves.
