Our spidey senses are tingling. Spider-Man is back! Or should we say Spider-Men. Peter Parker (the original web slinger) teams up with Miles Morales (his protégé) in Marvel’s adrenaline fuelled sequel. Swapping between the two, you’ll protect the streets of New York from a rogues’ gallery of villains old and new.

What is Spider-Man 2’s release date?
Good question. Your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man hits PS5 on 20 October 2023. So, make sure to swing by soon to get your hands on it.
How much will Spider-Man 2 cost?
The price of Spider-Man 2 is going to vary a bit depending on the version you buy. The standard edition is £69.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition (which is exclusive to the PlayStation Store) is a tenner more. But you’ll get more kapow for your pounds, with ten more stylish suits for Peter and Miles that have been created by guest artists. Pretty cool.
Then, if you’re a serious Spider-Man fan, there’s the Collector’s Edition. Coming in at £219.99, this is the premium version of the game. It includes everything from the Digital Deluxe Edition, along with a steelbook display case and a statue. And that statue is really something. It features the two Spider-Men facing off against the ferocious Venom – which is exactly who you’ll be scrapping with in the game.
Can I pre-order Spider-Man 2?
You sure can. Physical pre-orders are live on the web (sorry) right now. Or, if you don’t want another case clogging up your shelves, you can grab yourself a digital copy via the PlayStation store. Whichever version you pre-order, you’ll get some extra in-game goodies too – with early access to two suits and the Web Grabber gadget. Plus, three skill points to unlock some epic new superpowers from the off.

Spider-Man 2 platforms and crossplay
Unfortunately, Spider-Man 2 is exclusive to Sony’s PS5. So, if you’re a PS4 or Xbox Series X/Series S owner who wants to get in on Marvel’s latest adventure, you’re going to have to make the switch.
How to play Spider-Man 2
With the open world sandbox of New York to explore, you’ll swing, crawl, jump and brawl your way through the game as both Spider-Men.
Each hero comes with their own set of abilities to experiment with. With Peter’s new Black Symbiote Suit, his fighting style becomes a whole lot more brutal. He can use tendrils to dish out super aggressive combos, parries, and web shots - which all deal humongous amounts of damage. There’s not much in the way of mercy here.
On the other hand, Miles has a range of bioelectric powers to unleash. Thunder Burst sends out a punchy electric ground-pound attack, while Chain Lightning does what it says on the tin – bouncing around between your foes. Making it perfect for tearing through large enemy squads. All sounds pretty shocking to us…
You’ll even be able to swap between Miles and Peter whenever, wherever you want. With a character switching system influenced by GTA V, you can quickly change between the two. And experience different missions and incredible set piece moments from their unique perspectives.
And with great power comes great graphics. Spider-Man 2 uses the full oomph of the PS5 to bring the city to life. You’ll have the whole of New York to defend – with two new boroughs (Queens and Brooklyn) being added to the mix since the last two games. Which means you’ll need some fresh spidey tech to get about. Web wings, anyone?
How many hours of gameplay will Spider-Man 2 have?
You’re going to be looking at about 30-40 hours of gameplay here easily. With a main story to complete, crimes to stop and a ton of legendary New York landmarks to swing around, there’s loads to see and do. Not to mention all of the cool collectibles, secrets, and nods to the wider Marvel universe that comic book and film fans will love.
Who are the main heroes and villains?
If you’ve ever read a Marvel comic or watched any of the gazillion movies, you’ll know just how many superheroes and villains there are in Spider-Man’s world. Here are a few of the characters you’ll play as, the allies you’ll be fighting alongside, and the big bads you’ll be going up against…
Peter Parker – *The* man behind the mask. By this point, Pete has been putting criminals behind bars for well over 8 years now. And he’s showing no signs of slowing down just yet. Especially with the latest threat to his beloved New York.
Mary Jane – MJ is an investigative journalist and Peter Parker’s love interest. She knows all about Pete’s secret identity and is just as determined to rid the city of the corruption and crime that’s plagued it for decades.
Miles Morales – Taking a leaf out of Peter Parker’s book, Miles got his powers after being bitten by a genetically modified spider. And after learning the ropes from Pete, he quickly became the city’s second Spider-Man – but with his own special abilities. How does invisibility and the devastating ‘Venom Sting’ sound?
Venom – A mix of man, alien and monster, Venom is one of Spider-Man’s oldest, most frightening opponents. When it bonds with a host, the Venom symbiote gives the user super strength, agility, and web shooting just like Spidey himself. But who actually is Venom? The answer hits pretty close to home this time round…
Kraven the Hunter – A deadly big-game hunter, Kraven has an ego the size of the Empire State Building. He sees himself as the world’s greatest hunter, and to prove it, he hunts down the most dangerous and exotic types of prey – superheroes like Spider-Man.
Lizard – The name’s a dead giveaway, but funnily enough, Lizard is a massive lizard creature. Dr. Connors was a brilliant scientist who specialised in regenerating missing limbs. But when he tried to regrow his own amputated arm with the help of reptile DNA, the experiment went very, very wrong. Transforming him into a horrific, man-eating lizard.
What are the different Spider-Man 2 game mode options?
There’s only going to be a single-player story mode at launch. But with a whole open world to explore and battle through, that’s the only mode you’re going to need.
Will Spider-Man 2 have a multiplayer mode?
Even though there are two Spider-Men this time round, Spider-Man 2 is your classic single-player, story-driven title. Even if we do really wish there was a co-op mode where you could team up with a mate!
What Spider-Man 2 features are player customisable?
You can customise the look of Peter and Miles by unlocking and equipping different snazzy suits. Each one comes with its own unique abilities, so you can quickly swap these in and out to match your playstyle. And you’ll also have new skills, gadgets, and suit mods to boost your powers in combat and stealth. Those henchmen won’t know what hit them.
