Our Cash for Trash recycling scheme is going from strength to strength. The more people hear about it, the more they love it. And it couldn’t be simpler. Bring old tech in-store for recycling and get at least £5 off your next eligible purchase. Here’s how it’s done:

1. Come in-store with your old, unwanted tech, and we’ll recycle it for free. We take everything from conked out kettles to kids’ tablets. It doesn’t matter if you bought it from Currys or elsewhere.

2. We’ll give you a discount voucher for at least £5 to redeem against any eligible in-store or online purchase over £25 (so all the good stuff, basically).
Note: the trade-in value of your tech could be more than £5. We’ll give you what it’s worth, so see our trade-in page to check the value of your old tech.

3. Use our handy store finder to see which store is closest to you and transform your old trash into cash!

What the PM had to say about Cash for Trash

Cash for Trash is making a name for itself with our customers throughout the UK. But it’s not just our customers who have been impressed. The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, spoke about Cash for Trash in glowing terms during a recent visit to our Newark Repair Centre. He said:

“It’s visits like this that inspire me – seeing what you all are doing, seeing how hard you are working, seeing the new skills that you are acquiring to build a better life for yourselves.

“And in the process doing something wonderful for millions of people around the country, saving them money on their electronics, saving our environment, and doing it with a smile on your face.

“That is inspiring and I want to harness that and spread it across the country. If we can get that right, then we’re well on our way to a brighter future.”

The Prime Minister continued: “What’s great about what you do is that it has so much impact on the country. You are saving millions of people a fortune.

“When you extend the lifetime of their laptop, their TV, or allow them to buy something refurbished – all of that is just putting cash in their pockets. At a time when the cost of living is an issue, you are saving people hundreds of pounds on their family budgets. That’s incredibly special.

“And at the same time you are doing something wonderful for the environment because you are able to find every little bit of these big electronic devices and re-use them and put them back into circulation – great for the environment, great for people’s wallets.”

The Prime Minister was accompanied in his visit by Currys CEO Alex Baldock, who explained:

“As we toured the Newark Repair Centre today, Rishi Sunak was bowled over by the skills of our colleagues, the sheer scale of the place (it is the largest Electrical repair centre in Europe, after all) and all the good we’re doing - keeping money in our customers’ pockets, and protecting the planet, by giving tech longer life. Of course, this is great for our business too, which is in everyone’s interest – or as the PM described it, a win-win.”

How Cash for Trash makes a big difference

After a customer brings their old ‘Cash for Trash’ tech into store, it’s sent to our repair centre, put through the harvesting database, and parts are taken from it.

Samantha Canham, our repair centre manager, explains: “We can save up to 20 repairs from your laptop. It’s great for environment, good for the wallet and good for the customer.”

Currys is the number one tech recycler in the whole UK, recycling over 65,000 tonnes of waste electronics a year. If it’s beyond repair, it’ll get taken apart so the important resources can be made into something new. If it can be fixed, it might find its way to one of hundreds of community causes across the UK – after it’s been cleaned, refurbished, and tested for safety.
