So, you want to know how to delete an album on iPhone. Well, we’ve got you covered. We’ll show you how to take out the trash, and help you say goodbye to that album of less than flattering pics from your big nights out. You can thank us later…

Deleting a photo album on your iPhone

Deleting iPhone albums is super easy. And you don’t have to worry about any photos in them going in the digital bin. It’ll just remove the album structure, and your pics will still be in your camera roll. Phew. So, this is how to delete albums on iPhone:

  1. Open the ‘Photos’ app on your iPhone.

  2. Hit the ‘Albums’ tab at the bottom of the screen to check out all of your photo albums.

  3. Scroll down to find the album you want to delete.

  4. Tap on the album to open it up.

  5. In the top-right corner, press the ‘Edit’ button.

  6. A red minus icon (-) will pop up next to each album. Tap on the icon next to the album you want to get rid of.

  7. Confirm your choice by pressing on the ‘Delete Album’ option.

Recovering deleted photos and albums

If you’ve accidentally deleted one of your favourite holiday snaps (or that album with all your selfies in), don’t panic. You can easily get them back from the ‘Recently Deleted’ folder that’s sat in your Photos app. It’ll store any deleted albums and photos for a while before they’re removed for good. Here’s how to recover your recently deleted photos:

  1. Open the ‘Photos’ app and tap on the ‘Albums’ tab.

  2. Scroll down and select ‘Recently Deleted’.

  3. Press on the photo or album you want to recover.

  4. Tap on the ‘Recover’ button to restore it.

  5. And that’s it! Any deleted photos or albums should now be back in your library.

Creating a new photo album on your iPhone

Want to store all those snaps and videos from that epic summer getaway in one place? Then create a new photo album just for them! It’s a great way to keep your camera roll organised. And means that whenever you need to find that cute pic of your pooch for Insta, you’ll know where to look.

Here’s what you’ll need to do to create a new photo album on iPhone:

  1. Fire up the ‘Photos’ app.

  2. Press the ‘Albums’ tab.

  3. Scroll down a bit and selected ‘Add Album’.

  4. Give your album a name – Canada 2024, family gatherings etc.

  5. Tap on ‘Save’ to make the album.

Syncing albums with iCloud

Syncing your photo albums with iCloud means you’ll be able to look at and edit your snaps across all your gadgets. Whether that’s on your iPhone, iPad, or MacBook. Nice. Plus, if you accidentally drop and smash your phone, you won’t have lost all of your shots. Just make sure your gizmos are actually connected to your iCloud account. Otherwise, they’ll probably be gone for good.

This is how to sync albums with iCloud:

  1. Go to ‘Settings’.

  2. Tap on your name at the top of the menu.

  3. Select ‘iCloud’ then ‘Photos’.

  4. Toggle on ‘iCloud Photos’ to enable syncing.

Organising photos within albums

If you like your pictures to be nice and organised, then you can easily do a quick clean-up on your albums. Want to make sure each snap is in chronological order? You can do that – just follow these steps:

  1. Open the album you want to organise.

  2. Tap on the ‘Select’ button in the top right corner.

  3. Press and hold on a photo to enter editing mode.

  4. Drag the photo to wherever you want to put it.

  5. Repeat this until you’re happy with the order.

  6. Tap ‘Done’ to save your changes.

Fixing photo album issues

If you’re running into issues when you’re sorting out your albums, here are some fixes that’ll hopefully get things back to normal…

  • Restart your iPhone – Sometimes a simple restart can fix small glitches. It’s the oldest tech trick in the book for a reason.

  • Make sure you’re using the latest version of iOS – Updating your iPhone’s operating system can fix bugs and improve its performance.

  • Check your iCloud storage settings – If you can’t sync albums with iCloud, see whether you’ve got enough iCloud storage available.

  • Is iCloud Photos enabled? – Double check that iCloud Photos are toggled on in your iPhone’s settings. Then they’ll be able to sync properly.

FAQs

Why can’t I delete an album from my iPhone?

If you can’t delete an album, it might be an album that’s part of the system on your iPhone. And these ones can’t be removed.

Does deleting a photo from an album delete it from the camera roll?

No, it doesn’t. Deleting a pic from an album only removes it from that specific album. The photo will still be on your camera roll unless you delete it from there as well.
