Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 design
As you would’ve guessed from the name, the big feature on this phone is its wide foldout screen. Just open it up like a book and you're greeted to a bright 7.6-inch display that lets you see and do loads (more on this later).
I managed to have a play with the new Galaxy Z Fold6 a few days ago and was amazed at how light it was for its size. It's got plenty of heavyweight specs, but at just 239g, this phone is far from a lump and it's even a few grams lighter than the previous gen Fold. You can easily hold it with one hand and use your other to draw and jot down notes with your finger or the Galaxy S Pen (sold separately).
The Fold6 is almost 10% slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold5 too (at 12.2mm), with Samsung shaving off just over a millimetre to make their new device a little easier to store in your pocket. This is thanks in part to the clever zero-gap hinge design, which also keeps the phone better protected against pesky dust and dirt.
We all drop our phone from time to time, but not to worry. The Galaxy Z Fold6 can withstand accidental falls and scrapes with its 10% tougher Armour Aluminium and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 materials. It certainly felt really well made and strong when I used it (albeit briefly). And it'll be safe against spills and downpours too, with an impressive IP48 water resistance rating.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 colours
You get three colours to choose from — Silver Shadow, Pink, and Navy. These modern shades are available for all three versions of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 phone (256GB, 512GB, and 1TB).
And if you want to protect yours with a case, you won't have to spoil its good looks. That's because with the official Galaxy Z Fold6 clear case, you can shield it against everyday bumps and scratches while keeping its stunning colour on display. Win-win!
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 display
The Fold6's displays (yes, plural) are a big deal — quite literally. The main foldout screen is a whopping 7.6 inches, essentially giving you a tablet that folds up and fits in your pocket. What really impressed me was that you could have up to three apps open at the same time across the dual screens, making multitasking really easy.
Or you can use the whole display to watch a blockbuster movie or hit show when relaxing after work. The AMOLED screen tech makes your favourite content pop with crisp detail and deep contrast. While the blazing-fast 120Hz refresh rate keeps everything looking smooth — especially for gaming.
And when you're out and about, the clever Adaptive Vision Booster adjusts the screen’s brightness automatically to suit the light conditions. With a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, it's the most vibrant display on a Galaxy foldable ever. So, it’ll look clear and vivid even on sunny summer days.
Then there's the 6.3-inch cover screen. This gives you lots of room to send quick replies, check the weather, and scroll through your socials without having to open the phone every time. It's only 0.1 inches bigger than the Fold5’s front display, but it makes the screen just a tad more usable in one hand when the phone's folded shut.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 AI
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 is running the latest Android 14 operating system, meaning you get neat features like enhanced lock screen customisation and Magic Compose. This writes stylised replies for you based on previous messages so you can save time.
But the built-in Galaxy AI smarts are what really set this phone apart:
Circle to Search: Like a hat someone's wearing in an Insta pic? Circle it to instantly search for it online with no typing required.
Interpreter: Quickly translates other languages even without a Wi-Fi connection, with either side of the display showing what the other person is saying. Perfect for when you go away on holiday and need to ask the locals for directions!
Live Translate: Another language barrier breaking feature that translates phone conversations in real-time.
Note Assist: Transcribes recordings and jots them down into notes for easy-to-read summaries. Great for work meetings or those long lectures.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 also includes the Google Gemini app, which is an AI chat bot that helps you learn new things, write a birthday card message, plan events, and much more whenever you need a hand.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 camera
The Galaxy Z Fold6 comes with the same main camera system found in the Galaxy S24, making it the most powerful ever in a Samsung Fold. It combines a 50MP primary sensor with a 12MP ultra-wide sensor and 10MP telephoto camera — letting you capture everything from detailed close-ups to epic landscapes. And when it's time for a quick selfie, you can rely on the 10MP cover camera.
We know it’s always awkward nominating someone to take a group shot of you and your friends. But with the Fold6’s Flex Mode, no one gets left out. I tested this when I got my hands on the phone and all you have to do is prop it up on its hinged sides, set a timer, and it’ll take a hands-free snap for you. Even just a simple palm swipe will trigger the phone to capture a photo too!
The smart stuff doesn’t end there, as the camera system also leverages the power of AI to take amazing photos and videos no matter where you're shooting. Like the ProVisual Engine, which enhances fine details and subtle shades when lighting conditions aren't the best. And when the sun goes down, there's Nightography mode for taking crystal-clear pics in the dark. At a match and far away from the action? The AI Zoom feature will close in while keeping the resolution free of noise.
Then when it's time look back at your brilliant camera work on the big display, you can use Photo Assist to make pro edits so everything looks picture perfect. Move or resize objects, fill in backgrounds, or remove distracting shadows with just a few taps for standout social posts.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 battery life
The new Galaxy Z Fold6 comes equipped with the same long-lasting 4400mAh battery found in the previous Galaxy Z Fold5. You can listen to up to 77 hours of music or watch up to 23 hours of video on a single charge.
Then when it's time to recharge, you won't have to hit pause on your favourite entertainment for long. With super-fast 25W wired charging, it'll get back to 100% in no time at all. And there's support for 15W wireless charging too.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 performance
The Fold6 features a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor, which Samsung says is 18% faster than the Gen 2 processor in the Fold5. This means that everything feels a bit sharper, especially when you have multiple apps open at the same time.
And listen up gamers — this upgraded processor renders graphics 19% faster too, for lag-free gameplay. While Advanced Ray Tracing delivers more realistic graphics by "tracing the paths of light rays to simulate the reflections, refractions, and shadows of digital images or videos more accurately" — according to Samsung.
It's a big deal when Samsung release one new smartphone, let alone two. But that's exactly what they did at their recent Galaxy Unpacked event. And while the bigger Fold6 might have stolen the headlines, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 is still a serious bit of kit and puts a lot of the same power into a more pocket-friendly package.
The Flip6 comes filled to the brim with innovative Galaxy AI features just like the Fold6, meaning it can transcribe, translate foreign languages, and enhance your content so it's ready to share with your followers in seconds.
You won't even have to even flip it open to respond to a message thanks to the Flex Window. Just rely on Suggested Replies, which analyses recent messages and generates responses so you can get back to your friends without having to type out a single word.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 specs and features
But how about key specs? The Flip6’s main foldout display is a generous 6.7 inches and also offers 2,600 nits peak brightness, so it looks crystal-clear even in direct sunlight. Its 4,000mAh battery provides plenty of juice for all-day scrolling and entertainment too, and then there's the impressive 50MP main camera system that captures gorgeous pics and vids.
