The Samsung Galaxy Ring is finally here. Launched alongside new Samsung foldable and flip phones and smart watches — this tiny piece of tech has generated a lot of buzz. Why? Because it's Samsung's first ever smart ring.
At first glance, it looks just like a standard wedding band. But don’t be fooled. It's hiding all sorts of cutting-edge sensors and Ai smarts to help you keep tabs on your wellness and fitness. Let’s find out more…
Samsung Galaxy Ring release date
The Galaxy Ring is out now and available to buy from Currys. It was unveiled at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event on 10 July 2024 along with the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 phones, plus other new smart wearables like the Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Buds3 wireless earbuds.
Samsung Galaxy Ring price
All Samsung Galaxy Ring models cost £399, regardless of their size and colour. So even if you’ve got a bigger ring size or a real thing for gold — you won't have to pay extra!
Galaxy Ring sizes may be different from regular ring sizes, but you can still find the perfect fit with the official Sizing Kit. Just purchase the kit for £10 (which includes 9 sample rings) and you’ll get £10 credit towards the purchase of a Galaxy Ring.
Samsung Galaxy Ring features
There's a lot to love about Samsung’s new smart ring, which packs some mighty features into its tiny frame:
3 built-in sensors: Its Optical Bio-signal Sensor monitors your heart rate, the Accelerometer tracks your body's movements and activity, while the Skin Temperature Sensor measures your body heat while you sleep.
Ai-driven insights: As the sensors do the legwork, Galaxy Ai will analyse the data they collect and build a detailed report for you in the Samsung Health app. You'll even get personalised wellness and sleep tips to help improve your days and nights.
Slim and lightweight design: All that clever tech doesn't make this ring a workout to wear when typing, cooking, or sleeping. At 7mm wide, 2.6mm thick, and 2.3g — it's comfortable 24/7.
Durable and water-resistant: Strong titanium makes the Galaxy Ring tough enough to withstand everyday knocks and scrapes. And with a water-resistance rating of 10 ATM, it'll keep monitoring your health even in the shower or the pool.
7 days battery life: You won't have to worry about recharging the Galaxy Ring every night, as it lasts up to seven days on a single charge. Then when it's time for a top up, just pop it in the cool clear charging case to get it back to 100%.
Syncs up with Samsung Health app
The Galaxy Ring is designed to pair up with your Samsung Galaxy phone via Bluetooth. Just make sure you've got a Samsung account registered on your device, and then all the health data the ring gathers will be sent to and stored in the Samsung Cloud.
But all that data makes most sense when you see it presented for you in the Samsung Health app. It’s a dashboard that lets you view all your insights in one easy place. This is also where Galaxy Ai steps up and acts like your very own virtual fitness coach by providing some personalised pointers.
What can the Samsung Galaxy Ring track?
Thanks to its long battery life, the Samsung Galaxy Smart Ring can monitor all sorts of metrics for up to a week without a recharge. That's a lot longer than most smart watches, which usually need charging every couple of days. This means you'll get more consistent data with fewer interruptions, giving you a clearer picture of your health and habits.
Heart rate: The Galaxy Ring keeps an eye on your heart rate around the clock. And it’ll let you know if something's up via the Samsung Health app, like if your heart rate’s getting too high or too low.
Walks and runs: Whether you're doing a half-marathon or just having a leisurely stroll around the park, the Galaxy Ring's accelerometer auto-tracks walks and runs for you. Meaning you won’t need to press start to count your steps or the calories you've burned.
Sleep: Want to know how well you've slept? The Galaxy Ring and Samsung Health app can record all kinds of interesting sleep stats including your blood oxygen, skin temperature, night-time movements, and sleep stages.
Cycles: The skin temperature sensor detects heat changes in your sleep to help you manage your cycles and plan ahead.
Ai-driven tips and advice
All the activity the Samsung Ring's sensors track is just half of the story. Once that data syncs to the Samsung Health app on your phone, Galaxy Ai will analyse everything and work its magic to help you make improvements to your life.
It does this by giving you personalised wellness and training tips that you can use in your daily routine. Not getting enough sleep? Galaxy Ai will suggest ways to get a better night's rest with Sleep Coaching. Been sat at your desk for a while? You'll get an alert recommending some stretches or a short walk to get your blood flowing.
What's more, your sleep pattern, activity, and heart rate data feeds into a daily Energy Score which will always give you a good idea of what your current condition is. That way, you can plan a day full of exercise to make up for a bad score. Or put your feet up and recover if you put the work in the previous day.
Gestures to control your Galaxy phone
While your connected Galaxy phone gets the most out of the Samsung smart ring, the Galaxy Ring can help you do more on your handset too. With a simple double-pinch gesture using your thumb and the finger wearing the Galaxy Ring, you can control a few functions on your paired Galaxy phone wirelessly.
Want to take a hands-free selfie with your Galaxy Z Flip6 phone? Just prop it up, pose, and make the gesture to capture a snap with your friends. Or if your phone's charging on the other side of the bedroom and the alarm goes off, you can do the same gesture to turn it off without having to get out of bed in a hurry.
Trace back with Find My Ring
If you ever lose your Galaxy Ring when you're out and about, then there's a good chance you'll be reunited with Find My Ring. Just open up this app on your Galaxy phone and it'll show you the last location where your Galaxy Ring was paired on a map. Wouldn’t it be nice if that worked for wedding rings too?
