The phones were revealed in all their glory at Samsung’s global Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, 17th January 2024. We were right there at the London gathering to capture every moment, and discover what Samsung has in store for the future of mobile technology.

After a quick introduction by Samsung brand ambassador Fearne Cotton, James Kitto took the stage to highlight the depth of work that Samsung has been doing on AI ever since it first appeared on the Galaxy S8 in 2017.

We were then beamed into the global Unpacked event live in San Jose, where we learned more about the new AI features and experiences coming to the S24 family.

Live Translate

Need to make a phone call with someone that speaks another language? Live Translate gives you a real time translation of what’s being said, both verbally and on the screen. A demo showed how easy it was to book a restaurant table when you’re in a country where you don’t speak the language. It was completely seamless and straightforward .

Live Translate works no matter what phone the other person is using – even a landline. And it’s not just for phone calls. It works in person too, so you can use it to ask someone for directions or to speak to a merchant at the local marketplace.

Circle to Search with Google

Want to learn more about something in one of your photos? Circle to Search with Google is what you need. It’s an AI feature that lets you search objects in your photos with a simple gesture. You can choose to circle, highlight, tap, or scribble over the thing you want to find out more about, and the results will appear as if by magic.

So, if you’re wondering where your mate or an influencer got those cool shades, you can find out almost instantly. You’ll no longer have to rely on taking screenshots, opening other apps and doing amateur detective work to get the details you’re after. Circle to Search with Google makes it easier to search even when you can’t think of the words you’re looking for.

AI photography

Samsung Galaxy S-phones are famous for their great cameras. Now with the help of AI, the new S24 phones are taking photography to a whole new level.

When you take any shot, AI goes to work to touch up the tiniest nuances of your image for even more detail.

Video stability has been improved, so you get super smooth footage even if you’re shooting from a distance.

Nightography is better than ever, improving clarity in the darkest conditions - even when you’re zooming in.

Talking of zooming in, we enjoyed a demonstration courtesy of YouTube royalty Mr. Beast, where he zoomed in on a chocolate bar from over 75 foot in the air using the S24 Ultra. Even from a great height and with 100x zoom, the image was perfectly crisp and sharp.

We also saw a fun editing feature that lets you easily move people around the photo. So that average basketball jump can now become a slam dunk.

Oh, and with an S24 it doesn't matter if somebody photobombed you any more. Use the Photo Assist to get rid of them with a single tap. Gone!

What are the differences between the S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra?

The S24 is a truly awesome Android – but still the entry level phone of the family.

The S24 Plus shares the same camera set-up us the S24, but the display is bigger, the battery is larger capacity, and it comes with faster charging.

Then you’ve got the S24 Ultra, of course. A premium phone that takes everything to the next level with a world-beating camera, dazzling display…. and a nifty S-Pen stylus for drawing, doodling, sketching and highlighting. Here’s how the specs stack up against each other.

When can I get one of these S24 phones?

Want to be one of the first people in the country with a shiny new Samsung phone powered by Galaxy AI? You can pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S24 Galaxy AI, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus Galaxy AI, or the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Galaxy AI from Currys right now, for delivery on its 31st January release date.
