After a whole lot of hype, we’ve just had our first major look at the brand-new Samsung Galaxy S25 Series. And there’s a lotttt to like.

At the Galaxy Unpacked event over in San Jose, California, the South Korean tech giants unveiled three shiny devices – the Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra.

Like we expected, they’ve built on last year’s S24 with a bunch of big upgrades. Including a better processor, fresh set of cameras and a ton of other cool stuff. But for us, the updates to Galaxy AI were the real star of the show. We reckon they’ll completely change your day-to-day. Making everything from writing emails to ordering dinner abroad way easier.

Right, let’s see what the deal is with each new handset…

Cameras

Your Insta feed is about to make the group chat well jel. The S25 and S25+ feature a combo of four cameras (10MP, 50MP, 12MP, 12MP). While the Ultra is your all singing, all dancing photography pro – giving you 50MP, 200MP, 50 MP, 10MP and 12MP of snappy goodness to play with. Whatever you pick, you’re covered for capturing ultra-wide landscapes, group selfies, and everything in between. All with plenty of extra detail to boot.

Speaking of detail, let’s talk about the built-in Object-aware Engine for a sec. It can identify whatever you’re shooting and work out the exact amount of ambient lighting in the frame. This helps it to capture textures and skin tones exactly like how your eyes see them in real life. Making your snaps look as realistic as possible. Oooh.

Display

You could argue that the screen is the most important part of any good phone. After all, you’re going to spend a long time looking at it. So, Samsung have gone for a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display here. And it’s a real looker. Whether it’s the 6.2” version on the S25, or the whopping 6.9” of the S25 Ultra, games and movies are looking bigger (literally) and better than ever.

AI makes an appearance here as well. The ProScaler bumps up any lower quality pics and vids – think the blurry shots on that big night out – making them brighter and sharper than they were before. Maybe now they’ll actually be usable on your socials.

Performance

Under the hood, every phone is built around a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor. And it’s a big step up. Samsung say it’s the most powerful ever used on a Galaxy. Plus, it’s been tuned especially for Galaxy AI. So, when you’re whizzing between apps or multitasking with a gazillion tabs open, there’s nothing to slow you down.

How does that translate to the raw numbers then? Well, it’s next level when it comes to gaming. There’s a 40% boost to Ray Tracking (making in-game lighting look a lot more realistic). While your gameplay is 18% smoother. That makes a huge difference – especially in multiplayer battles where those extra frames can save you from propping up the leaderboard.

On the Ultra, you’ve also got a whopping 5000mAh battery. Which is more than enough for binging a bunch of episodes back-to-back on the train. Or sinking hours into that fantasy RPG that you can’t stop playing. Either way, you won’t be rushing about hunting for a plug socket.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Series design highlights

Like their previous Galaxy launches, you can grab an S25 in a range of snazzy colours. And if you’re willing to shell out a bit more, those S25 Ultra titanium finishes look particularly epic to us.

Here’s a full rundown of the different finishes by model:

  • Samsung Galaxy S25 – Icyblue, Navy, Mint, Silver Shadow.

  • Samsung Galaxy S25+ - Icyblue, Navy, Mint, Silver Shadow.

  • Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra – Titanium Silver Blue, Titanium Black, Titanium Grey, Titanium White Silver.

Build & materials

It’s not all about looks though. Both the S25 and S25+ have a super sturdy Armour Aluminium body. While the scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 keeps your screen safe. If you’re anything like us – and drop your phone on the regular – both are a proper life saver.

Then there’s the S25 Ultra. This thing is even beefier and built like a tank, rocking a tougher titanium frame that’ll take any bumps and scrapes in its stride. The Corning Gorilla Armour 2 display isn’t just for protection either. It’s also anti-reflective. Letting you stream your favourite shows while you’re sat outside in the sun without any pesky glare getting in the way.

And with every model, you’ve got IP68 protection too. Spills, dust and drops won’t be a problem. So, if you’re listening to some tunes while you do the washing up and accidentally splash it, you don’t need to panic. Phew.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Series AI and software

2024 gave us a chance to really get to grips with Galaxy AI – Samsung’s very own artificial intelligence. But with the launch of the S25 Series, it’s about to get way better.

Whatever model you go for, you’ll have a load of handy AI tools and software at your fingertips…

  • Circle to Search with Google – Where’s that jacket from? Circle it (or any picture, video or bit of text) and you’ll get instant results, telling you the brand and where you can buy it. The same goes for ambient music as well. It’ll identify it and you’ll have it on your playlist in seconds. Yep, it’s that smart.

  • Now Brief – It’s kind of like having your very own PA. Now Brief can tell you exactly what’s in store for your day, from when that dentist appointment is, to the traffic you’ll be stuck in on your commute. Oh, and when that new podcast episode drops, you’ll be the first to know about it.

  • Voice commands – When you’re in a rush, just long press the side button. With the one voice command – ‘YouTube’, ‘Samsung Notes’ etc – you can open up the app without swiping through all those pages on your home screen. Now you’re talking.

  • Now Bar – Stay up to date with the footy scores (your team’s losing again, shock), see what tune is playing, and find out your current location – all at a glance.

  • Chat Assist – This AI’s got a way with words. While you type, Chat Assist can help you phrase that important email to your boss. You’ll have that pay rise signed off sharpish…

  • Note Assist – You’ve just been sent a chunky doc at work right before a meeting. Note Assist to the rescue! It’ll summarise those 15 pages into a few manageable points covering everything you need to know. Nice.

  • Live Translate – Put down the phrasebook. If you’re struggling with the local lingo, just fire up Live Translate. You’ll have your brekkie ordered in no time.

  • Galaxy Audio Eraser – Quickly remove any annoying background noise from your videos and help your subjects stand out. Sounds good to us.

Oh, and one more thing…

Right at the end of the show, Samsung had one more reveal up their sleeve. A short video gave us a glimpse of the Galaxy S25 Edge and its incredibly slim side profile.

That was it though. It was a teaser in every sense of the word. And we didn’t get anymore info on pricing, specs or a release date. So, stay tuned for those.

But hey, having more great phones to look forward to somewhere down the line is always a good thing!
