Picture this: you’re sat comfortably on the sofa with a brand-spanking new smart TV right in front of you. But you don’t know where to start. Sound familiar? You’ve come to the right place. Whether you’re looking for music, entertainment, or games, here’s a list of our top apps for your smart TV, no matter the brand.
What are smart TV apps?
Simply put, apps can transform your watching experience, keep you entertained, or can even turn your living room into a dancefloor. Some apps come pre-installed with smart TVs, but there are tonnes available to download from the relevant app store.
Samsung TV apps
To get the most out of your new Samsung Smart TV, download the right apps to suit you. Here are a few of our favourites:
Netflix
This one’s a must for TV-lovers. From *Stranger Things *to Selling Sunset, binge-watching isn’t complete without some of Netflix’s heavy hitters. Not a Netflix fan? Find out what other Samsung TV apps can help streamline your streaming.
YouTube
Watch hilarious cat videos, cook along with your favourite chef, or simply dance the day away. Whatever you use the YouTube app on your Samsung TV for, you’ll be glad to know it works exactly the same as it would on your phone or laptop. Simply sign in and start streaming – easy.
Samsung SmartThings
We really wish this one came pre-installed. That’s how good it is. SmartThings essentially acts as a hub for your smart home. You’ll be glad to hear it doesn’t just work with Samsung tech. Link it up with your new Ring doorbell, Sonos speaker or Google Nest. And then sit back and control your home from the comfort of your couch.

Spotify
Blast your favourite bangers, or set the ambience with some chill tunes. The LG Smart TV version of Spotify works exactly the same as the mobile app. You can also upgrade to the premium version of Spotify for uninterrupted ad-free listening.
Movies Anywhere
Ok, hear us out. We know there are hundreds of movie apps out there. But this isn’t a streaming app. Instead, Movies Anywhere collates all your downloads in one easy-to-find place. Just link it to your favourite streaming service – like Amazon Prime, Disney+, or Netflix – and you won’t have to switch between apps when searching for the perfect movie-night watch. The best part? It’s completely free.
Twitch
If you’re into gaming, this one’s for you. Twitch lets you watch streams from your favourite gamers and creators. And you can also enjoy the content with family and friends when you can’t be together in person.
