Has your washing machine started to vibrate way too much? When it goes into ‘spin’ does it sound like a helicopter taking off? Then this is the article for you.

If laundry day is a lot more noisy than it used to be, it could be a sign that your washing machine needs replaced. But before you consider buying a new one, there are some things you can try to make it behave itself a bit better.

Top tips to stop your washing machine vibrating

Make sure it’s on the level. A wonky washing machine is one of the most common causes of excessive noise, so make sure yours is completely level. To do this properly, it’s best to use a spirit level to check that the machine’s evenly balanced. Most washing machines have feet you can easily adjust to make it level.

Don’t overload it. Overloading a washing machine can cause it to vibrate, so make sure you’re only washing the amount of laundry it’s designed to cope with.

Adjust the load. Uneven loads can also cause the machine to vibrate, so it’s worth checking that everything’s evenly distributed in the drum.

Use the correct amount of detergent. Using too much detergent can make some washing machines unbalanced. So make sure you’re using the amount recommended by the manufacturer. Some washing machines have an auto-dose feature that selects the perfect amount every time.

Watch your speed. If your washing machine has an adjustable spin speed, try lowering it to reduce vibrations.

Get an anti-vibration pad. Anti-vibration pads and matts are made from rubber specially designed to absorb vibrations. When your washing machine is running, the rubber compresses and absorb the vibrations, which helps to reduce the amount of movement and noise being generated. They’re a simple yet effective solution.

How to check the shock absorbers on your washing machine

If you’ve tried the tips above and your washing machine’s still vibrating too much, it might be a sign that the shock absorbers are worn out and need replaced. Here’s how to check:

1. Unplug the washing machine.

2. You’ll need to remove the front or rear panel to get a look at the shock absorbers. They’re usually attached to the bottom of the tub and frame of the machine.

3. Check for signs of wear. Look for cracks, tears, or any other visible damage.

4. Push down on the tub to see if the shock absorbers compress and rebound smoothly. If they’re working properly, the tub won’t bounce or vibrate too much when you release it.

If you thinks the shock absorbers are damaged or worn out, you might need to replace them. Contact our repair experts and they’ll give you the best advice on what to do next.
