Remember Overwatch? Well, that’s so 2016. Concord is the new hero shooter on the block now. Set in a zany sci-fi universe, you’ll join the Freegunner crew of the Northstar - a ship full of gunslingers, bounty hunters and general space scum who work as guns for hire.

In 5v5 multiplayer battles, you’ll go head-to-head against other squads to see which group of outlaws are the real top dogs in the galaxy. Let the star wars begin!

To get you ready to hit the arena, we’ve rounded up all the important info we can find. From the competitive online gameplay to the release date, pre-order details and more.

What is Concord’s release date?

You can get your hands on a copy of Concord on August 23, 2024. So, if you’re excited for the big launch, you won’t have to wait much longer.

How much will Concord cost?

It’ll vary a bit, depending on what edition you decide to go for. The Standard Edition comes in at £34.99, while the Digital Deluxe Edition will cost you £49.99. But you’ll get a bunch of cool goodies for that extra 15 quid.

Alongside 16 character skins for customising your crew, you’ll also get the Monarch Pack – which contains a couple of camos you can bling up your weapons with. Oh, and the big one is up to 72 hours early access. Letting you jump in a few days before release to really get ahead of the competition.

Can I pre-order Concord?

Absolutely. And if you get your pre-order in now, you can jump straight into the action on launch day.

Concord platforms and crossplay

You’ll only be able to play Concord on PS5 and PC (through Steam or the Epic Games store). Sorry Nintendo and Xbox fans – you’ll have to get your team shooter kicks somewhere else!

The good news though, is that crossplay has been confirmed. If you’re a PlayStation player, and all your mates are gaming on PC, you’ll still be able to squad up and go into battle together. And, if you’re lucky enough to own both systems, there’s cross-progression too. So, you can get a few rounds in on your console and carry on levelling up the same character on your PC later on. Nice.

How to play Concord

If you’ve played any FPS before, you’ll be right at home here. Concord is a lightning-fast hero shooter, where you’ll play as a cast of zany characters – each rocking a special weapon and unique powers. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses too, so it’ll be a completely different experience depending on who you pick.

To beat the other team though, you’ll want to take a good mix of heroes into the arena. So, make sure you and your mates coordinate properly. Otherwise, you’ll be propping up the bottom of the leaderboard!

You’ll be fighting over 12 futuristic looking maps for now. But the devs have promised to add more in the upcoming seasons, alongside skins and potentially even fresh new modes. Best of all though, it’ll all be completely free.

How many hours of gameplay will Concord have?

There’s not a traditional single player campaign here, so we can’t slap a specific number of hours on it. But like any epic multiplayer game, it’s super replayable, so you’ll keep coming back for another round.

Who are the main characters in Concord?

You’ll be able to play as a load of whacky, colourful characters. And they all have their own big personalities, abilities, and funny one-liners. There’s set to be 16 Freegunners from the off, with more mercenaries added further down the line.

Here are a few of the faces we know about so far:

  • 1-Off – It wouldn’t be a sci-fi shooter without a robot right? 1-Off is a big yellow bot armed with what looks like a deadly vacuum cleaner. After pulling enemies in close, 1-Off will stomp the ground to dish out a ton of damage. And when their mini vortex gets deployed, it’ll freeze enemies to the spot. There’s no escape!

  • Vale – Prefer to keep your distance? Vale’s the answer. With her sniper, she can take out targets from across the map. And there’s nowhere to hide either. By jumping into the air, Vale can pull off shots from all sorts of angles. So, even if you’re crouched behind cover, it’s far from safe.

  • Lennox – If you’re into your westerns, Lennox is a great shout. He’s basically a space cowboy, wielding a pair of quick firing pistols. You can swap between them in a flash too, so when you run out of ammo on one, you don’t have to waste time reloading. Just grab the other and keep on shooting.

  • Haymar – She’s your eye in the sky. By leaping up, Haymar can glide over the battlefield and rain down destruction from above with her trusty crossbow and fireball powers. She’s a team player too though. By unleashing a blinding flash, she’ll leave any opponent stumbling around with a white screen – leaving them as easy pickings for the rest of the squad.

  • Star Child – This fella is basically Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy. And you could say he’s the star of the show. Fighting as a brawler, Star Child favours his fists over any other weapon, wading into combat and getting up close and personal whenever he can. He’s almost bulletproof too and can harden his skin to deflect any incoming bullets. Good luck taking him out…

What are the different Concord game mode options?

You’ll be able to get stuck into six different respawn and objective-based game modes:

  • Zone control – Capture and hold three areas on the map. The more areas you control, the more points you’ll rack up.

  • Elimination – This one’s your standard team deathmatch. Get the most kills to win.

  • Signal Hunt – Specific spots on the map will be picked out that you’ll have to defend. The clock is ticking though, so try to hold the position as long as you can.

  • Trophy Hunt – Both teams start with their own set of trophy cards. The aim is for each team to steal as many cards as possible to come out on top.

  • Salvage – Grab special loot dropped around the map. Snaffle up as many items as you can to get points on the board.

  • Occupation – Wipe out every Freegunner on the other team before they can defend their area or hold yours against their attack.

What Concord features are player customisable?

We don’t know a lot about the customisation just yet. For now, it looks like most of it will be cosmetic only, like different skins for your characters and weapons. But let’s be honest – it’s important to look cool while you blast your way through space!
