How to play Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 is your classic third-person action shooter, but with an intergalactic twist. As part of a squad of four, you’ll face off against waves of alien attacks - using the biggest and baddest arsenal this side of the Milky Way.
Flamethrowers, heavy machine guns and rocket launchers are just some of the superpowered tools you’ll use to exterminate the swarms. And by collecting alien resources, you can enhance your gear and guns to give them even more oomph.
You’ll have to be super careful though. Friendly fire is always on. So, when the bullets start flying, make sure you’re not just spraying and praying. Otherwise, your squad mates are probably going to be shouting down their headset at you! Who said peacekeeping was easy, eh?
How many hours of gameplay will Helldivers 2 have?
It honestly looks like you could play for as long as you want to. The game is all about replayability. So, you can tackle every mission multiple times – trying out new loadouts and gear while you battle towards your objectives. Who knows, you might find a new favourite weapon to squash those bugs with.

The Helldivers - These soldiers are the elite frontline troops of Super Earth. Handpicked from the regular army, their bravery and skill make them a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. After being strapped into the legendary Hellpods, they’re dropped into combat in the deadliest parts of the galaxy. And even when they’re outnumbered, they always get the job done…
The Terminids – Take a termite. Then make it a thousand times bigger. That’s the Terminids. These massive bugs are covered head to toe in scales and spikes – even the most powerful blasters struggle to pierce their armour. And this insect plague is going to devour every planet in the universe if it isn’t stopped.
The Automatons - This lot are like The Terminator on steroids. A race of mysterious machines, these bloodthirsty bots are hell bent on destroying Super Earth. Coded for death and destruction, they’re one of the Helldivers’ most ruthless enemies.
Will Helldivers 2 have a multiplayer mode?
It sure does - Helldivers 2 is built around multiplayer co-op. You’ll have to work together with other recruits to vaporise the alien attackers. Teamwork is key here. So, keep a cool head and communicate to take down those killer robots and creepy crawlies. But remember, in space, no one can hear you scream!
And this is where things get quite strategic. Make sure that you mix up your equipment across the squad and take a good balance of offensive and defensive gear with you. If you all end up bringing the same stuff into battle, you’re probably going to end up in the belly of a Bile Spewer. And that’s a terrible way to go.
What Helldivers 2 features are player customisable?
You’ll be able to customise pretty much every part of your Helldiver to suit your playstyle. Prefer to charge the enemy head-on? Gear up with heavy armour and use a shotgun to blast your way through the alien onslaught. Or maybe you’re the stealthy type? Then sneak through strongholds and pick off your targets with a sniper rifle instead.
And if being subtle really isn’t for you, you can always just call in a devastating 500 KG bomb and obliterate everything in sight. Just make sure your teammates are out of the way first!
You won’t just personalise your Helldiver though. As you explore planets and complete missions, you can upgrade your destroyer ship as well. Add some turrets, shield generators, airstrikes and more to even the odds. Then radio in for some fire support when things start getting hectic down on the ground.
