Logan thought he’d hung up his claws for good. But three years after calling it a day, it’s time for him to take the Wolverine out of early retirement. Bolivar Trask, head of the villainous weapons corp, Trask Industries, has sent his henchmen on the rampage. Their task? To kidnap and eliminate any mutants they can find. Playing as the rage-fuelled anti-hero, it’s up to you to save them.

To get you ready to don the iconic yellow suit we’ve put together a mini guide packed full of everything you need to know. From the brutal Adamantium claw combat to the pre-order info, release date and more.

What is the release date for Marvel’s Wolverine?

You’ll be able to get your claws into Marvel’s Wolverine on September 9, 2026. There’s not long to wait now!

How much will Marvel’s Wolverine cost?

A physical copy of the game will cost you £62.99. Or, if you prefer to keep your collection on the digital side of things, it’ll be available to download on the PlayStation® Store for £69.99. Just grab yourself a PlayStation Store gift card first to top up your wallet before release day.

Can I pre-order Marvel’s Wolverine?

Absolutely. You can pre-order your copy of Marvel’s Wolverine down below. And if you do, you’ll be able to leap into Insomniac’s comic book caper on launch day.

Marvel’s Wolverine platforms

Sorry Xbox and Nintendo fans! You’ll only be able to experience Logan’s epic adventure on the PS5. Plus, it doesn’t look like PC players will be able to get in on the action either. Sony recently announced that they don’t plan to bring their biggest games to the platform anymore. So, for this – and any other future exclusives – you’ll have to grab yourself a PlayStation®.

How to play Marvel’s Wolverine

Wolverine is a third-person, combat action game. You’ll take on Trask Industries’ Sentinels (mutant hunting robots), Reavers (cyborg bad guys) and an entire rogues gallery of villains in bloody hand-to-hand brawls. And Logan is famous for his sheer aggression, making these fights seriously savage.

That’s when things start to get feral. Once you’ve filled up your Rage bar to level 3, fire up Beserker mode. When you’re in it, there’s not much that’ll be able to stand in your way. It lets you do a huge amount of damage, with special one hit kills that’ll put the fear into your foes.

It’s not game over if your health bar hits zero either. As long as there’s still a bit of juice in your Rage bar, you can channel this into your healing ability – which looks seriously grizzly, with muscle and bone quite literally knitting back together. If you get clobbered again though, that’ll be it. And it’ll be back to the start of the last checkpoint!

If you’re the squeamish kind, this one might not be for you. Wolverine quite literally tears through his opponents. Limbs get lopped off. Razor sharp claws meet cybernetic goons’ faces. And there’s a lot of blood. So. Much. Blood. But hey, Logan isn’t exactly known for a quiet night down the pub is he.

How many hours of gameplay will Marvel’s Wolverine have?

From what we can tell, it looks like Wolverine’s globetrotting journey will take around 15 hours to beat. But expect to add a few more hours on top if you fancy finding every hidden secret.

Unlike Marvel’s previous superhero smash ‘em up, Spider-Man 2, this is a linear blockbuster title. Which means you won’t be charging around an open world for hundreds of hours on your quest to save your fellow mutants. With different difficulty modes though – and we’re banking on a New Game+ option too – there’s still going to be plenty of replay value.

Who are the main characters in Marvel’s Wolverine?

It wouldn’t be a Marvel story without a huge cast of characters – both good and bad…

  • Wolverine – The main man himself. You already know about the claws that can slice through basically anything (yes, even steel). Or the Adamantium skeleton that heals his injuries after gunshots and stab wounds. What we don’t know though, is what our rage-filled hero has been up to since he finished being the Wolverine. We can’t wait to find out.

  • Jean Grey – One of the X-Men’s most famous team members. And one of the most powerful. She uses her psychic skills to even the odds on the battlefield. In the gameplay showcase up above, Jean stuns foes, then holds them in place for Wolverine to deliver the killing blow. Oh, and she’s been Logan’s love interest in the past. So, we might be in for a romantic subplot here too.

  • Omega Red – Dangerous and psychotic. That’s Omega Red in a nutshell. This brute (with his own set of whip-fast metal tentacles) was a serial killer, followed by a KGB agent in a past life. In the trailers that’ve released so far, Wolverine goes toe-to-toe in a bone-crunching brawl, meaning we can expect at least one big boss fight.

  • Mystique – You never quite know what you’ll get with Mystique. Sometimes she’s a shape-shifting hero. Other times, an evil mutant assassin. Whether she’s battling against Logan or fighting off hordes of baddies alongside him remains to be seen.

  • Sabretooth – Him and Wolverine have clashed many times over the years. In this game though, he’ll actually aid you on your mission. With his own pair of razor-sharp claws, he’s a force to be reckoned with in a scrap. We’re glad he’s on our side!

What are the different Marvel’s Wolverine game mode options?

There’s just the one mode available at launch - a cinematic, single-player campaign. And while you’ll team up with a whole who’s who of anti-heroes across the course of it, they won’t be controlled by other players. If you want to build your very own version of the X-Men with your mates, you’ll be waiting a bit longer.

What Marvel’s Wolverine features are player customisable?

Nobody’s Wolverine is going to be completely alike. First off, the game features a suite of moves and abilities for you to choose from. You’ll slot these into a power wheel, unleashing them in battle on your enemies. Don’t expect to be spamming your favourites though. A cooldown means you’ll have to think tactically about how and when you decide to trigger them.

You won’t only be locked to wearing Wolverine’s classic set of threads either. There’s a wardrobe full of snazzy outfits for you to unlock and swap between, especially if you prefer something a bit less bright! If you like, it’s even possible to switch out the look of the now legendary adamantium claws too.
