The kingdom of Fevrith has been defeated and you’ve fled to a remote island. It’s no summer holiday though. Rise up in rebellion, liberate your lands and take back the throne. After all, it’s your destiny to do so…
But before you march out to battle, arm yourself with some knowledge using our handy mini guide. We’ve got everything you need to know right here, from the gameplay and price to the release date and more. Charge!
What is Unicorn Overlord’s release date?
Unicorn Overlord gallops its way onto consoles on March 8, 2024. So, strap on your armour, grab your shield and draw your sword. Because the enemy army approaches…
How much will Unicorn Overlord cost?
You won’t have to loot a couple of castles to afford this one. You can grab your copy for just £54.99 – no matter what platform you’re playing on. And you’re getting a whole lot of game for that price too.
Can I pre-order Unicorn Overlord?
You sure can – and if you pre-order, you’ll get some extra in-game goodies for your coin. They’ll throw in cool coat of arms decals, letting you customise the banner you carry into battle. Which will strike fear into the hearts of your enemies when they see it!
Want to go for the digital edition instead? Grab yourself a PlayStation gift card, Xbox gift card, or a Nintendo eShop card. Then, top up your account and download it straight from their online stores. You’ll be able to get your hands on the game nice and quick – and you won’t need to wait for the postman to arrive. Win win.
Unicorn Overlord platforms and crossplay
It’s on pretty much every platform apart from PC. You can play on your Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4 or Xbox Series X/Series S. Strangely, it won’t be releasing on the old Xbox One. So, if you’re an Xbox gamer who hasn’t made the leap to current gen, you’re going to have to upgrade.
There’s no word on a crossplay feature at the moment, but most games with a multiplayer mode include it nowadays. So, hopefully we’ll be able to face off against commanders on other consoles.
How to play Unicorn Overlord
To free Fevrith from the Zenorain Empire’s clutches you’re going to have to put in some miles. You’ll journey across the realms (on foot and horseback), forging alliances, capturing towns, and training up your soldiers. And while you win battles and snaffle up any resources you can find, you’ll become more powerful – letting you defeat the game’s most deadly foes.
None of this is scripted either. You can choose where you go and what you do next. Don’t fancy laying siege to that big fortress just yet? Ride around it and come back later when you’re ready to strike. As you make a name for yourself and perform these heroic deeds, your reputation will grow too. Which means there’ll be an even bigger target on your back…
This wouldn’t be a full-scale uprising without some epic battles though, would it? In the battlefield stage, you need to capture enemy command posts in real-time while you defend your own. From a top-down view, you’ll position units and launch attacks or hold your ground. There’s a lot of plates to spin!
When your units finally clash with the enemy, you’ll play in a 2D, side-on view. Letting you get up close and personal with every fight. These scraps will put your tactics to the test, as skills for each squad have to be selected in advance. If you’ve got your plans wrong, you’re going to be in for a right hiding!
How many hours of gameplay will Unicorn Overlord have?
This is a sprawling RPG with plenty of cities to conquer and story missions to complete. We don’t have an exact number to go off at the moment, but we reckon you’re easily looking at over 20 hours of tactical gameplay here. Liberating a whole country isn’t exactly something you can do overnight!
Who are the main characters in Unicorn Overlord?
You’ll run into plenty of friends and foes on your campaign…
Alain – He’s the main character in this quest. You’ll help him to build an army to take back his throne from the evil General Valmore.
Galerius – Covered from head to toe in black armour and wielding a massive battle-axe, Galerius is someone you definitely don’t want to face on the battlefield.
Illenia – The queen of Cornia is a tactical genius and a leader who’s loved by her people. And she might look calm, but that big sword she carries about says otherwise…
Josef – Your guide and mentor. Josef is a grizzled holy knight who has spent years leading the liberation army, but now, he’s handing the reins over to you.
Will Unicorn Overlord have a multiplayer mode?
Yes! You can test your might against your mates or other generals online. Visit the coliseum, assemble your troops, and battle enemy armies for multiplayer supremacy. Or, you know, just win the bragging rights between you and your friends.
What Unicorn Overlord features are player customisable?
You’ll have to prepare your forces before you head into action. Your whole party can be fully customised to match your playstyle, as recruiting allies from different backgrounds gives you unique buffs and abilities to unleash.
Humans, Bestrals, Elves, Angels and massive beasts all bring their own weapons to the table. Use them carefully though, as some attacks will be more effective on certain opponents than others. There are over 60 characters to pick from in all – so, mix and match your battalions to make sure they’re ready to tackle any enemy threat.
