If you’ve ever taken a trip to Lisbon or Barcelona, you’ll know that rental scooters are great fun! You can zip around in a flash while you take in the sights.

And if you loved the thrill of riding one, why not get your own? Rentals are good for a laugh, but they’ll never be the best e-scooters available. Fortunately, we’ve got a great choice of electric scooters made for all ages with some features to fit every kind of rider.

But if you’re new to scooting, what’s the best electric scooter for you? It depends what you’re looking for from your scooter. Do you go mobile with the best folding e-scooter, or is battery life and speed more important?

We’ve put together a handy little guide to get you started.

The best electric scooter for your age

Best kids’ electric scooter

Want a scooter made for kids in mind? You might think that a children’s e-scooter is just a smaller electric scooter, but they’re also slower and have lots of safety features for young riders.

There are loads to choose from, but a good pick is the Zingbot C10 electric scooter. It’s light and foldable and has a slower top speed and some smart safety features – including three easy ways to brake. And if they’re new to scooting, both come with three modes which will help them safely gain confidence as they learn.

Safe mode is perfect for beginners just finding their feet. When they’ve got the hang of things, they can then graduate to Cruise mode – where they can kick to accelerate. Finally, there’s Turbo mode for that extra boost.

Electric scooter for adults

For the best adults’ electric scooter, look for a scooter with great power, stability and battery life. The best electric scooter for adults will depend on what you prioritise. But one thing’s for sure, the less time you spend charging, the more you get to scoot.

Looking for a scooter with a massive run time? A great long-range option is the Ninebot G30 Max II. It’ll do 40.4 miles on one charge. That’s a lot of scooting around!

The large 10-inch pneumatic tyres means it’s a really comfortable ride. It has a top speed of 15.5 mph which is clocked up on its colour LED display. Plus, you can track all your rides on the handy Segway Ninebot app.

Electric scooter for teenagers

Buying an electric scooter for teenagers can be difficult. Younger teens will still need all the safety features for kids. But as teens grow up, they’re more likely to want something that they can take with them to scoot with their friends.

Looking for something that’s super portable? The Segway Ninebot D28E is 15.3kg and folds down to a very compact size – so they can carry it to your fave scooting spot. And because even the handlebars fold down, you can store it in a compact space on that rainy day.

Its digital display lets you know how much battery life you’ve used, how far you’ve gone and lots more. And you’ll get a full charge in 4 hours - enough to get you 17 miles!

Then you can hook it up to the Segway Ninebot app to find your perfect settings from your phone.

How much are e-scooters?

Electric scooters come with many different price tags attached, and it’s generally the features that affect electric scooter price. Everything from battery life, motor power, what its made from and smart features (like linking up to an app) can influence how much you pay. You may decide to go for one with all the bells and whistles, or maybe it’s just about getting the fastest affordable electric scooter. Our scooters can go from under £100 to nearly £1,000. So although your budget can be a big factor in what scooter you get, there’s definitely an option for nearly every wallet.

Do electric scooters fold up?

Yes! As we’ve recommended, the Segway Ninebot D28E is a great example of an e-scooter that's easy to fold away and store, or even take with you where you wan to go. The good news is that most e-scooters are foldable. So really it's just a case of finding one that's a comfortable weight for you - especially important if you want to carry yours to some private land where you want to scoot. You’ll find instructions as to how to fold your electric scooter, but most of them allow you to fold down the handlebars to the base - so it’s easy to keep your scooter tucked away when you don’t need it.

How long does an electric scooter battery last?

Electric scooter charging times depend on both the quality of electric scooter chargers, how much energy the scooter uses and battery size. When asking “how long do e scooters last?” look for range - i.e. the distance your scooter will go on one charge. Kids’ e-scooters tend to a have a lower range (about 3 miles) whereas powerful e-scooters can go up to 40 miles on one charge - though usually in a lower power setting, like Eco mode, and on flat ground. There are other things you can do to extend your electric scooter battery life.

3 Wheel, 4 Wheel or 2 Wheel Electric scooter?

When we think about e-scooters, the first thing that comes to mind is probably the classic two wheel electric scooter. But actually, electric scooters come in all shapes and sizes. 3 wheel electric scooters can offer more stability - a plus for inexperienced riders, whereas 4 wheel electric scooters are often preferred by off-roaders. But a sturdy two-wheeler can provide both balance and off-road capabilities - just look for wide foot boards, pneumatic tyres and good suspension.

Electric scooter accessories

Helmets for e-scooters and electric scooter accessories should be essential purchases before you get scooting. While e-scooters are very safe to ride, they can go as fast as 15.5mph, so be sure to wear a good quality helmet for e-scooters. An electric scooter lock is also a good idea if you’re going out and about or even just locking up your scooter at home. Want more ideas to take your scooting to the next level? You’ll find loads of accessories for e scooters.
